I dropped a table and its indexes which were the only occupants of its table and index tablespaces. The high water mark did not budge despite the container being empty. Other than dropping and recreating the tablespaces, is there any other option !! Comment by Chris Eaton on Performance (hit ratios, sorts, dynamic queries)- September 22, 2008 Hi Henry, if you just want to get an idea of what's going on you can use the snapshot monitor instead of the event monitor. Think of the snapshot monitor as just looking into the system and giving you information from a specific point in time. You could run snapshots periodically to see what it happening...and it does show Static SQL as well. The event monitor for statement does have more overhead because it writes out the event information for each and every statement that executes...which chttp://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/db2luw/performan... Comment by Chris Eaton on Finding the needle in the Deadlock haystack- September 22, 2008 Hi Bob, the event monitor will report on both of the applications involved in the deadlock and what they are doing. It is not the monitor that does the rollback of one application. That actually happens inside the DB2 engine. There is a deadlock detector inside of DB2 that actually monitors for deadlocks and when it finds one it rolls back one of the transactions involved in the deadlock. !! Comment by Rani on Recover database from only tablespace backups- September 22, 2008 Hello Chris, I am getting SQL1263N log error when I am recovering my database from table space level online backups. And I am not able to identify the cause behind this error. Can you please help Thanks. !! Comment by henrysteinhauer on Performance (hit ratios, sorts, dynamic queries)- September 19, 2008 Hi Chris, You mention here that one of these will look at the Dynamic SQL, Is there a set of tools that will also look at the Static SQL Is there a way to use this approach for the Event Monitor for Statements I have heard that this event carries with it a lot of overhead and that IBM does not recommend using it in Production. I can understand where you might not want to have it on very long, but I would like your thoughts on using it for short periods ofhttp://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/db2luw/performan... Comment by Frank on Self Tuning Memory Manager- September 19, 2008 Hello Chris, I migrated recently from 8.2 to 9.5 and am experiencing performance issues related to backup time and runstats, is this related in anyway to the following message showing up in the db2diag.log FUNCTION: DB2 UDB, Self tuning memory manager, stmmEnforceMinSizeConstraints, probe:2255 MESSAGE : Unable to find donor to satisfy minSize constraint I read that this is due to db2 not being able to allocate memory and that the database memory needs to have a vhttp://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/db2luw/self-tuni... Comment by Chris Eaton on Self Tuning Memory Manager- September 16, 2008 Well, DB2 will play nice on the server and make sure the OS does not get into paging troubles. Given that, if there is a critical application on your server that must have sufficient resources for you to run your business, then make sure it has that resources. Typically SAP is one of those applications that you want to make sure it has priority. So setting it to a static value can be a good recommendation, then for the other things on the box that are not as critical (either perfohttp://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/db2luw/self-tuni... Comment by Chris Eaton on Performance (hit ratios, sorts, dynamic queries)- September 16, 2008 Hi Sandeep, You don't have to turn on any switches if you don't want to. But you just won't get certain pieces of information when you run the snapshot. The DB2 Information Center tells you what pieces of data are only available when certain switches are turned on. Comment by Chris Eaton on Is HADR hard- September 16, 2008 Hi Sandeep, If you have enterprise edition of DB2 then you are licensed to use HADR. If you have other editions then you need to purchase the HADR option. For load you need to use COPY YES and then make sure that that load copy file is accessible to both the primary and standby. This is described in the a rel="nofollow" href="http:publib.boulder.ibm.cominfocenterdb2luwv9index.jsptopic=com.ibm.db2.udb.admin.docdocchttp://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/db2luw/is-hadr-h... |
