Daily Roto Pickups :: Trade Deadline Watch - July 1, 2008

Today it is officially trade deadline watch for most teams, but anyone in an AL or NL only league especially should start thinking about possible players to move since they are trade candidates. Also holding your waiver priority for players who enter your league. The Pitchers are of most concern this year. I am going to add this post to the right side also as a permanent link. Below I will list names commonly read on MLBTR. I might include some sug...

The Outsiders Look at the Insides of Baseball :: International Signing Day - July 1, 2008

Tomorrow (July 2) begins the start of Major League Baseball's International Signing Day. Some of the majors biggest stars have come from this day, which primarily focuses upon Latin American and the Caribbean. Recent years have seen signing bonuses shoot through the roof, however they have not reached a point where the small market clubs are left with bidding on the weakest players. Instead, much of the work is done as the kids develop through team baseball academies, of which is something ev...

The Rational Sox Fan :: Rays Take Charge of First Place in 5-4 Win Over Boston - July 1, 2008

The Red Sox continue to look sluggish and unable to generate runs, resulting in another frustrating loss on the road, this time costing them a chance at regaining first place. Many people are looking at this series between Boston and Tampa Bay as a gauge to evaluate whether the Rays are truly for real this year. So far, they do seem to be for real.

Camden Depot :: Updated Postseason Odds - July 1, 2008

Well, every projection system was a little bearish with the exception of the Pythagorean method. PECOTA odds for reaching the playoffs have decreased from 1:79 to 1:182 over the past week. ELO has decreased from 1:18 to 1:29. I also reckon that the wisdom of the crowds has also taken a downturn as Sherrill is providing another round of evidence that when you elicit a 25% groundball rate . . . you get hit. Sometimes, you get hit hard. He is a lot like Chris Ray in many ways, but that is s...

The Mets Report :: NL East News: Phillies In Atlanta Video - July 1, 2008

The Philadelphia Phillies are in Atlanta for a three game series against the Braves starting tonight. The ideal scenario for the Mets is for the Braves to win at least two of the games at home. Considering that the Braves are 28-14 at home this season, that&8217;s likely to occur. The Phillies are 2-8 in their ...

The Bottom Line :: Red Sox Rays: Okay, this time we'll be trying... - July 1, 2008

James Shields shut down the Red Sox last night, and despite a rally kept alive by pure luck, the Sox fell to the Rays 5-4 and are now 1.5 games back. Tonight Tim Wakefield will square off with Matt Garza in the Trop. The season is far from over, but it would be nice to take this series and get... Click the link to read more...

The Chuck Knoblog :: Some Good News for Matsui - July 1, 2008

Hideki Matsui, who was recently put on the DL with a knee injury, could take batting practice sometime this week. So I guess that means he won't need surgery, and the Yankees probably won't be signing Barry Bonds. Matsui is eligible to come of the DL on July 8th, but he will probably stay on the DL until after the All-Star break, as the Yankees want to be cautious with his rehab.
