A Journalism StartUp - June 14, 2008

I requested for a projectgig spec of a start up that wants this projectgig competed in 4 to 6 months. The Start Up mission is to create a new JournalismNews Industry Model and its a new model that I would like to be involved in helping define by the my ruby on rails creations. The project would entail me becoming somewhat a full-time contributor to RailFrog CMS. The Start-Up founder, Dave Cohn, is someone I know from following his writing gigs and articles and his twitter musings. His...

Private-Public Equity Exchange Platform-Chicago - June 13, 2008

You would think with Chicago being in the top five as far as Financial World Centers that there would be some ambition on part of Chicago companies to create a an equity Exchange Social Network Platform for either Public or Private Equity. Part of the hurdle is of course legacy infrastructure. Some one who might have taken MIS classes sees all this enterprise infrastructure design to handle high volume transactions with a high degree of reliability talking to very diverse systems and thinks...

Symfoclipse Secret - June 12, 2008

For those of us playing with Symfony and the Eclipse Symfoclipse plug-in people have been having trouble with the plug-in recognizing the Symfony command line commands from the plug-in. Here is a simple step that no matter how you define the data directory via VirtualHosts will work with this plug-in. The path var of SF_DATA_DIR gets that path location shown right below that entry. I am on Ubuntu so yours might be something like usrlocallibdata...Now reboot Eclipse and the Symfoclipse...

Symfony 1.1 Sandbox Set-up - June 12, 2008

As you know Symfony 1.1 is in release candidate stages. Screen shot of sandbox app install: One small variation in directions. In your sf-sandbox Virtual Host file you can either use Alias as directed and change user permission to the sf data directory or my preferred method is to delete that line and let sf-sandbox pick up images from the websf directory as new sandbox doe shave the default images, css, and etc.

My first Symfony error - June 12, 2008

My first Symfony error: Because I usually set my php Apache2 module to 128M limits for Web PHP MVC frameworks and that is higher than limit shown I must have mangled that setting with some type of punctuation error such as a ' before the number, easy to fix.

Project alias-MVC Frameworks - June 12, 2008

In most MVC RAD Web Frameworks such as TurboGears, Django, RoR, CakePHP, and SymfonyPHp you are required to set-up project folder initially in a WWW folder of deployed server initialize settings and etc. However, most IDEs require you to have the project folder in a workspace place. One option is to have the IDE copy project files from the WWW directory as an import from file system. Another option is to set up a Virtual Host alias for your developer server and have those project folders in a..

Why Not Aspect(AODAOP) as a RAD Tool - June 11, 2008

I have a question. We now have Aspect tools for most major OOP compiled languages and scripting languages including PHP with PHPAspect for Eclipse. My question is what are the stumbling blocks to effectively putting this in our RAD tool arsenal just as we would say a Web MVC framework such as SymfonyPHP Is it the learning curve

SymfonyPHP - June 11, 2008

I guess I have to configure Symfony or more precisely the Symfony projects in Eclipse: Its a nice set-up in Eclipse with Symfoclipse in that you get to use Symfony Pake command line commands and YAML editing.

CakePHP vs Symfony - June 10, 2008

Lately there has been a debate about which is the better RAD MVC web framework for PHP5, or Symfony. Symfony has that nice object ORM layer set-up reducing the SQL query code you have to manually create. Both have helper scaffolding code generators. I think you would have to measure the cost savings in not having to do so much SQL code in using Symfony against the possibility that the helper scaffolding in Symfony might not cover a functionality that you might need that CakePHP...

IDE4Laszlo Updated - June 10, 2008

First, its alpha. But, it appears that an independent group has spent sometime to update the archived IDE4Laszlo code base up to using Eclipse 3.3.0. The company behind this group seems to be Syte GmbH with the new IDE4LAszlo downloads at here. The plug-in was also submitted to EclipseCentral about 10 hours ago so the links are found there as well. There are two groups of downloads depending upon which OpenLaszlo Sever version you are targeting. Here is the log of changes right from the...
