Search Engine Optimisation Services for the New High Street

IE7-Search-Steal - (Found June 6, 2008 )

By herding people towards the new search utility in the IE7 browser, Microsoft skews the search results from Google to show sub-optimal results. Its difficult to select the correct localised Google provider and once chosen the provider selection doesnt persist through subsequent browser sessions. This makes no difference for searchers in the USA but a world of difference to searchers outside. They are constrained to choose Google.com for whichever region they are in, which shows more localised..

Conserve-Internal-PageRank - (Found June 6, 2008 )

Make the most of the web clout Google gives you. Outgoing links can either confer PR weight to the outgoing site or they can restrict passing PR through the link anatomy. Fix broken links, and ensure that PR is not being passed through incorrectly defined javascript.

Title-and-Meta-Tags - (Found June 6, 2008 )

Don't overlook obvious and simple SEO measures. Meta tags exist to provide information to bots about the site they are visiting. Although meta descriptions and meta keywords have no effect on ranking, they exist to provide contextual information for the search engines. So use them.

Use-Correct-Redirects - (Found June 6, 2008 )

If you have to move pages to another domain or another section of the site, do it without losing all the web clout the search engines have already given you, and do it without making the result messy from the viewpoint of search engines and incurring a penalty. Use a 301 permanent redirect in the htaccess file.

Avoid-All-Duplicate-Content - (Found June 6, 2008 )

If the same content on your site is produced elsewhere on the web, you'll be on a course of competition where even if you are the author, you'll risk a penalty if the search engines don't come to that conclusion. Avoid duplicating material.
