Douglas Murray: Cocoa NutsLurching towards 21st century codingA Programmer's Aim- (Found July 5, 2008 ) Brent Simmons is a smart guy exploring some programming areas of interest to me. He has written an aesthetics of application design.http://inessential.com/ OS X Stability Continued (until Palm 4)- (Found July 5, 2008 ) After loading the OS X Palm Desktop I had to restart my PowerBook after 33 days uptime. Last time I restarted was after installing OS 10.1.3 updates.http://radio.weblogs.com/0100628/categories/cocoaNewbie/2002/03/26.html#a64 OS X stability rocks- (Found July 5, 2008 ) One reason to love OS X is its stability. Here is a recent transaction in the terminal window: localhost: dmurray% uptime 10:12PM up 22 days, 7:40, 5 users, load averages: 1.43, 1.22, 1.09 22 days plus without a system crash or reboot. That's pretty good.http://radio.weblogs.com/0100628/categories/cocoaNewbie/2002/03/14.html#a57 (Untitled)- (Found July 5, 2008 ) At night I've been reading the Apple pdf book Object-Oriented Programming and the Objective-C Language which is very well written and a free download. Apple is making it as easy as they can for developers to get on the OS X train. I'm brushing up on C and scanning Aaron Hillegass's approachable and well written introduction to OS X application programming:Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X.http://radio.weblogs.com/0100628/categories/cocoaNewbie/2002/03/10.html#a54 (Untitled)- (Found July 5, 2008 ) So I am going to try to learn to program with Cocoa for OS X. I joined ADC. I downloaded the developer files. The project and interface builder programs are awesome. They represent the state of the art in programming tools. I ran the 2 lines tutorial from Cocoa Dev Central. Now -- I guess I need A Crash Course in C first.http://radio.weblogs.com/0100628/categories/cocoaNewbie/2002/02/09.html#a33 (Untitled)- (Found July 5, 2008 ) It's crazy to program film sound utilities in Cocoa -- which requires OSX -- since ProTools (like Avid and, no doubt, most other sound and pix editing software) requires OS9. Final Cut Pro works with OSX and is growing in popularity (from the bottom and edges of the budget world) among picture editors, but it is not yet ready to replace Film Composer or ProTools. Digidesign says ProTools will run under OSX as soon as they complete a full rewrite of the app, but they won't say when, only that..http://radio.weblogs.com/0100628/categories/cocoaNewbie/2002/02/03.html#a16 (Untitled)- (Found July 5, 2008 ) It's cheating to edit this now (Feb902) -- but anyway: The topics I wish to cover in this weblog are: Sound Editing, Sound Design, Mixing, ProTools and other technologies for sound work, and the culture and world of the sound editor. I also intend to leave a trail behind me as i attempt to learn to do some useful programming using the Cocoa environment for Mac OS X.http://radio.weblogs.com/0100628/categories/cocoaNewbie/2002/01/15.html#a2 |
