Yeah, baby, yeah! I spent the day in a noisy place with a low temperature and lots of fireproof doors. In a server roomhallwhatever. It was actually very nice since I hadn't been in a server room for ages. I also got a quick tour of the various types of boxes they're running for "us" -- which included a pair of Sun Fire 10K's. Devilish HR departments - February 18, 2004

Recently, someone posted a cry for help to the XP Yahoo! group. It's about the devilish HR department demanding certain procedures to be performed by the programmers, which quite obviously disrupts their productive flow and brings pretty much no benefit to the HR anyway. I was surprised to hear about that kind of a problem as, here in Finland, I've never encountered such policies (although I've seen a lot of different kinds of bureaucracy quirks). I got an IDEA - February 15, 2004

So I'm now a happy owner of a license for IntelliJ IDEA 4.0. I've heard a lot of good about IDEA and now I finally get to play with it a bit more (I've downloaded an EAP build a couple of times but hardly ever really used them). I won't be using IDEA at work for some time, though, because I don't want the project to pay for my learning new stuff, but I'll be doing as much private goof-around-at-home type of development with IDEA that I can. I really don't know why the heck did I blog about this.

Avant Browser looking good - February 13, 2004

Thanks to Gregg, I found Avant Browser, a very nice IE "extension" with tabs, popup prevention, and all that. Here's a screenshot of one of the available default skins:
