Beer: Author bubbles with love for brew - July 4, 2008

John Schlimm has decent credentials for the author of a beer cookbook, and I don't mean his master's degree in education from Harvard. His family has been in the beer business since the 1870s, when his great-great-grandfather, Peter Straub, left Germany for Allegheny City, now the North Side of Pittsburgh. There he worked at the Eberhardt & Ober brewery before moving to a brewery he would buy in 1876 in St. Marys, Elk County.

McKean County Drug Task Force sweep nets nearly a dozen - July 4, 2008

Area police arrested 11 alleged drug dealers in a round-up in the Bradford area Thursday. "The arrests that occurred Wednesday and Thursday are the result of several months of investigation by the Drug Task Force", said McKean County District Attorney John Pavlock, who heads up the task force. "We'd like to thank the Street Crimes Unit and Emergency Response Team for their help and making everything go smoothly."

Cleland takes oath of office for Superior Court Thursday - July 4, 2008

Judge John M. Cleland left his 24-year position of McKean County's president judge Thursday and was sworn in as a judge on the Pennsylvania Superior Court -- all without leaving his office at the McKean County Courthouse.

Three women were arrested and drugs, cash and weapons were seized in a drug bust Tuesday night at 17 Chautauqua Place where a child was taken from the home by Children and Youth Services.
