"Instances" - (Found June 24, 2008 )

quoteNot really what I'd like to call them, but it'll have to work - it's the best one-word description there is for anyone familiar with WoW. Which I'm sure most of you are....quote Nope, I'm probably unfortunately one of the few purists here. I've never played a single moment of any MMORPG that has a monthly fee, and I doubt I ever will. (about the closest I come to doing so is owning... ( Posted By: Lokasenna 06-05-08 15:37 )

Developing NPC Battle AI - (Found June 24, 2008 )

This post is ancient, but i've found useful nuggets on old posts before. Anyway, to address targeting you might also consider adding some kind of Archetype category to your classes and monsters. What you do is storm up a couple of basic entries, such as Healer, Warrior, Sorceror, Thief, Hybrid-Warrior etc, and then you assign them to your classesmobs. The goal would be to make them... SocketConnection Manager (for C) - (Found June 24, 2008 )

The purpose of this library is more than just handling connections, it is intended to wrap around the entire MUD, with all application logic being routed through Handle objects. ( Posted By: vassi 02-17-08 20:04 )

Re: Can a classless system work - (Found June 24, 2008 )

One way, in which many Cyberpunk-themed MUDs are classless yet ensure very class-like Chars, is to have characters come out ouf Chargen relativly powerful, and make it hard to advance from zero to Ubergod in game in any given area. Additionally, you can have IC restrictions to gain every possible ability - in the shadowrun system, magic and cyberware mix badly, so a mage will never keep up with... new MudServer: Chronos-Engine!! - (Found June 24, 2008 )

quote I've developed a MudServer for some time now and I've finally Open Sourced it! Woohoo! Curious to see what happens. Anyways, it's called Chronos-Engine because it makes 'time' happen in a virtual world. The server is more of an engine and many parts are still missing (building language is the biggest one) and it's written in modern C . You can see the feature list on the... The elusive Java mud copyover - (Found June 24, 2008 )

I actually want to thank you guys a lot for (eventually, I think I wrote this post last summer =P) debating and giving me a clear answer at the end on how this would be implemented. I never would have thought to separate into two processes and do the connections that way, I really like the idea. I was really just trying to emulate the copyover that Erwin used, and couldn't really come up with... ( Posted By: Torbie 04-07-08 11:09 )

Tips for Codebase - (Found June 24, 2008 )

Martin, if you're still around and looking for tips this much later, I'd love to talk object assemblies ("the oddest physical builds") with you. That's a matter that is hard to do right, and I've tried several ways. The simplest is to just use a bit system, with things like "has fingers", etc, but the flexibility isn't as much as, say, defining the sub-objects each object is made out... A World that changes - (Found June 24, 2008 )

It's always easier to destroy than to create... and more people will enjoy burning things down than gathering components to build them back up again. One thing I've considered is to keep several layers of description and show the topmost layer. Thus, every sector in the world gets a base "wilderness" description. When you put something interesting in (a road, a building, etc), it gets a... ( Posted By: srcurrie 06-05-08 14:05 )
