ever play a $60,000 guitar - July 14, 2008

I did. Details to follow. Suffice it to say that it was a well-worn 1958 left-handed Fender Stratocaster. I may never be the same again. Stay tuned for the report on the Philly Guitar Show. With left-handed picture goodness. Related Articles: moog introduces guitar guilty pleasures() kiss me (not) guitar center - outlet rip jeff healey ...

vista is a flaming turd - July 14, 2008

With apologies to Earle, who wrote earlier and really likes Vista, I had to post my second Vista experience. Keeping in mind that no good deed ever goes unpunished, I got stuck loading Office and vpn software on a coworker's new Dell computer. This is the one that Dell wouldn't let them return for one that runs XP. Since there seemed to be no way of getting a similar Dell with XP short of installing it myself (which I was not going to do), I had to get in there and make sure the machine could..

Palm Treo - We Care Why - July 14, 2008

I really wanted to care, I truly did, that Palm is still around and releasing Palm products. But I cannot get over the huge string of bad luck being seen here. Okay, using Windows Mobile. No problem there, makes sense for their offerings. And the new Treo is available on Sprint. Cool, Sprint does some good stuff. Again, no issues. But then we come to a couple of sticky points. The price of the phone and the fact that this is to take on the BlackBerry. First let's get serious about taking on...

The Anomaly of the Terror Watch List - July 14, 2008

As a security measure, there is a data base of known and suspected terrorists. South African President Nelson Mandela was on that list. Former Assistant Attorney General Jim Robinson is on that list too and he finds it a major annoyance: "..."It's a pain in the neck, and significantly interferes with my travel arrangements," said Robinson, the head of the Justice Department's criminal division during the Clinton administration. He believes his name matches that of someone who was put on the..

Half-Life 2 Episode 1 & 2 - July 14, 2008

Recently I finished up Half-Life 2 Episode 1 & 2 on the Xbox 360 version of the Orange Box. I have played Episode 1 before on the PC when it first came out but decided to play it again to play it all in order so the story can make sense and I can remember what I played before. Now the controls are the same as the Original Half-Life 2 that I played earlier and I already knew what happened in Episode 1 but I was waiting to see what would happen in Episode 2. Episode 2 is longer than 1,...

Slide Scanner - July 14, 2008

kml_flashembed movie="http:www.youtube.comvBLCyQsX-VxY" width="350" height="288" wmode="transparent" Hey everybody, I know you probably have some old slides. You might be wondering how you can get these into your computer for a lower cost than the stores make you pay. Also this is the perfect time to do it because right now you can't get light bulbs or other replacement parts for your slide projector. I was just recently having to scan some slides for my grandmother and I thought that I...

miniReview 2 AIM, Facebook, PhoneSaber - July 14, 2008

AIM One of the biggest disappointments so far on the App Store has been AIM from AOL. For what it is AIM is a pretty decent app. It always you to chat with your buddies, change your photo, and even send text messages, all in a nice simple interface. While this is all fine and dandy getting the app to run is a different story. For whatever reason I can only run AIM 310 times. So the other 7 times I cannot use the app either it crashes to the home screen or does a hard reboot of my iPod, not...

Concerns about Senator McCain's Computer Skills - July 14, 2008

Mark Soohoo is Senator John McCain's Deputy Internet Director. He has said that "John McCain is aware of the internet". That candid line about the Senator McCain's online expertise has raised questions about how computer savvy he is. The Telegraph from the UK has labeled Senator McCain as a "technology illiterate": "...When asked if he went online himself, the Arizona senator responded: "They go on for me. I am learning to get online myself, and I will have that down fairly soon, getting..

Digsby...The World's Best IM Client - July 14, 2008

Yesterday, I was experiencing major difficulties with my instant messaging client, Pidgin (Mac - Adium). Among other issues, I couldn't connect to my AIM account and the IRC client was buggy. Pidgin has had me worried the last couple months, especially after the developer quarrel about "when entering text, should the input field automatically expand or should a scrollbar appear". This incredibly trivial and minute disagreement caused Pidgin to be split up into two different versions, which..

iPod touchiTunes 7.7 Firmware 2.0 Review - July 14, 2008

Release of the iPod Firmware 2.0 love the ability to buy apps while no Wi-Fi Is available. I downloaded a lot of cool stuff and it seems that ALOT of this is stuff that was available over Installer.app. iTunes Version 7.7 carries support for version 2.0 of the iDevice Firmware, but I had trouble installing it though. But now I'm downloading most of the free apps. iPod As You know, I don't own a Mac or iPhone and I'm basically faithful to Apple otherwise. iHave owned an iPod since the...
