House! - June 12, 2008

Thirteen weeks after making our initial offer, with most of the intervening time consisting of the housebuying process slowly working its way along, we now own our first house!

Saints, and other days - June 11, 2008

Approximately a year ago, I visited double0hilly in Paris and took photos of windmill-related things there as part of the easterbunny 2007 LJ Collection Challenge. I have a new project this year, involving documenting things related to a particular saint. As I want to stand a chance at actually being able to do the challenge, I've gone with the most obvious saint-of-the-day for July 25th, St. James Apostle.View Poll: Saints, gods, and other eventsBonus factoids: - Ilyap'a kept his rainwater in.

Baltic - June 8, 2008

Location: 74 Blackfriars Road, Southwark. London. Dark woods of the waiting area bar opened up into a large expanse of redone industrial in white alternating with bare brick, with high ceilings and cross-beams. The week so far - June 6, 2008

A mildly disappointing William Curley Dessert Bar trip (due to ill and thus absent chef). Tortellini with a rich variety of cheeses. A visit to the..

Obscure waffles - June 4, 2008

I had thought that waffles were reasonably common in the UK, but their lack of appearance at brunches should have taught me better. As far as I can tell, it is not possible to buy a multi-purpose waffle-making device in this country. Either the small appliance makes waffles and nothing else, or else it only makes other things.

Telectroscope - June 3, 2008

Today, I saw the Brooklyn Bridge. It was a lovely morning in New York City. The sun was out, and passersby wore t-shirts. Each of them in turn stopped to wave, to dance, to pantomime to those of us waving, dancing, and smiling at them from the overcast banks of the Thames. Behind them, in the distance, the bridge spanned the waters of the East River. What better way to celebrate the momumental achievement of a sub-Atlantic tunnel, dug over four generations, linking London to New York City, than.
