As year ends, memories pile up - May 1, 2008

As the school year ends, The Journal's editorial staff has decided to run an obligatory retrospective of this year's hardest-hitting news stories. Here it is. After the shooting at Kirkwood City Hall, which claimed the lives of six people, Journal reporters attended victims' funerals and interviewed gunman Cookie Thornton's family in an effort to provide readers with in-depth coverage.

Graduating seniors plan for future - May 1, 2008

Even though the basketball season ended in March, students still see Brad Robinson in the gym playing pick-up ball with his teammates from this season. At the same time, others are watching baseball pitcher Wes Hilliard striking out several batters for SLIAC conference rival teams with three games left in the season.

Season ends with modest SLIAC finish - May 1, 2008

It is a sad day at Webster University, as tennis season is now over for the Gorloks. The St. Louis Intercollegiate Atheltic Conference Tournament was held April 25-26 at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park. The women finished in third place and the men finished in fifth.

Trivia Night - May 1, 2008

Questions flew fast and furious at the third annual trivia night hosted by the Webster University forensics and debate team, despite low attendance. Rep Theatre flirts with relocation - May 1, 2008

The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis is exploring the idea of moving from the Loretto-Hilton Center to the Grand Center in Midtown St. Louis. Specifically, there are ongoing conversations between The Rep and Grand Center Inc. discussing the possibility of a new Rep facility in a Parking Lot next to Powell Symphony Hall.

Director revisits roots in Conservatory's 'Oklahoma' - May 1, 2008

In the years since its 1943 Broadway premier, "Oklahoma" has become a favorite all-American musical, reincarnating itself in multiple Broadway revivals and showing on thousands of community stages nationwide. On April 23, the musical found its way to Webster University's Browning Mainstage, where Conservatory students presented their own interpretations of the classical characters.

Iraqi Student Project brings refugee to WU - May 1, 2008

More than four million Iraqis have been displaced due to violence in their home country - the majority of them having left Iraq after the U.S.-led invasion in 2003. Most of these refugees have sought asylum in the neighboring countries of Syria and Jordan, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, and one of them hopes to find a new home at Webster University in the fall.
