Dodge County Deputies and Kasson Officers will increase DWI patrols in July, one of the deadliest periods for impaired driving in Minnesota. The statewide impaired driving enforcement sweep covers the 4th of July holiday weekend and will include participation from more than 400 Minnesota law enforcement agencies. The state Department of Public Safety (DPS) coordinates the Safe & Sober campaign.Over the last three years (2004-2006) in July, 67 motorists were killed in alcohol-related crashes.

Retired Police Chief Dave Johnson's goal was to, 'make sure all my people go home safe' - July 3, 2008

In 1980 Dave Johnson was hired by the city of Kasson. His plan was not to stay in one community more than 5, 6 years. That didn't happen because in 1987 when Milo Bjergum retired as police chief Dave Johnson was appointed to the position of chief.Last Friday was Johnson's final day as chief. He spent 35 years in law enforcement and almost 28 of those years were in Kasson. "What can I say. I liked the area and didn't have any reason to go anywhere else," said the Kasson police chief of 21 years.
