Santa Ana-based MSC.Software, a developer of software for the CADCAM simulation market, said Tuesday that it has acquired MacNeal Group, a provider of simulation software for systems design. San Diego-based Nirvanix said yesterday that it has inked a strategic partnership with content deliver network (CDN) firm CDNetworks. AMO In Patent Deal With Alcon - June 24, 2008

Santa Ana-based Advanced Medical Optics said Tuesday that it has entered into a patent cross-licensing agreement with Alcon. According to the firms, Alcon will pay AMO $31M, and AMO will pay Alcon $10M in the deal. The patent covers technology for lubricious intraocular lens (IOL) inserters and one-piece IOL haptic designs. AMO is a developer of ocular surgery products and devices, as well as laser vision correction systems. AMO said it expects to receive the $21M proceeds in the second quarter.

AeA Releases High Tech Employment Figures - June 24, 2008

The AeA, a technology trade association, released its annual high technology employment report today, the Cybercities 2008. The report shows employment levels in the Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego areas of high tech workers, based on 2006 data. According to the AeA, Los Angeles had 172,200 people employed in the high tech industry in 2006, the sixth largest in the nation; Orange County had 100,900 jobs; and San Diego had 106,400, which ranked the area as the nations 13th largest...

Aptera Hires Marketing Exec - June 24, 2008

Carlsbad-based Aptera Motors, the Idealab-backed hybrid-electric vehicle maker, said today that it has hired on Tony Kirton as its new Chief Marketing Officer.
