Natural Gas Weekly Update - August 14 - August 14, 2008

Since Wednesday, August 6, natural gas spot prices decreased at all markets in the Lower 48 States, with prices falling between $0.20 and 0.77 per million Btu (MMBtu) at most locations. Prices at the Henry Hub fell $0.59 per MMBtu or about 7 percent, to $8.11 per MMBtuits lowest level since February 8, 2008.

Agriculture futures trade mostly higher on CBOT - August 14, 2008

Agriculture futures traded mostly higher Thursday on the Chicago Board of Trade. Wheat for September delivery rose 14.25 cents to $8.645 a bushel; December corn added 18.75 cents to $5.7725 a bushel; December oats gained 10 cents to $4.01 a bushel; November soybeans slipped 10 cents to $12.74 a bushel.

Gold picked up a few additional dollars overnight, owing to more Asian buying interest and a mixed bag of market values in base metals, currencies, and equities. Although the US dollar came under some pressure in the wake of news that home foreclosures rose 55% in July, the euro and the pound found themselves under even higher stress this morning.

Second Quarter Gives No Quarter to Gold - August 13, 2008

Following an incessant string of losses dating back to the first of the month, the gold market was finally able to recover about 2% of it value during today&039;s session. Today&039;s rise can in large part be attributed to a $3.5 gain in crude oil (last seen at $116.42) and to a steady but not climbing US dollar (last indication at 76.27 on the index and at $1.493 against the euro).
