The formula for UK box office success - (Found August 15, 2008 )

A new formula from Lancaster University Management School could help budding Barry Normans predict more accurately those movies which are likely to make millions in the UK. Dr Caroline Elliott and Dr Rob Simmons, of the Department of Economics, have analysed the success factors of 527 films released in the UK and found a direct correlation between critical reviews, advertising and box office revenues.

The Guardian: 'The party's over' - (Found August 15, 2008 )

Research by Dr Maria Piacentini and Dr Emma Banister, of Lancaster's Department of Marketing, is quoted in a Guardian story about the increasing number of students who are avoiding alcohol. Piacentini explains that students "stage-manage their involvement and performance in the alcohol-drinking culture, illustrating the extent to which their non-consumption of alcohol informs their student experience generally. The majority struggle to maintain their anti-consumption stance while remaining.

RBS supports China seminar for local businesses - (Found August 15, 2008 )

For the first time, a joint seminar was organised by the Royal Bank of Scotland, the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) and the Lancaster China Management Centre (LCMC), and held in Lancaster University Management School. It was arranged specifically to help local businesses understand the practicalities of working in China. Entitled, 'China - A Practical How', the event attracted around 40 businesses from the north west keen to set up joint venture or other activities in China.

Times ranks Lancaster top university in North West - (Found August 15, 2008 )

Lancaster University has shot up the rankings to be placed 19th in the UK and the top institution in the North West by The Times Good University Guide 2009. Lancaster is one of the biggest movers in the table, jumping eight places from 27th last year.
