Announcing a New Feature - (Found August 15, 2008 )

As we travel around Croton, we hear many residents griping about the deteriorating quality of life here. So we decided to give readers a place to air their unhappiness. We propose to call it &8220;Complaint Corner.&8221; A local artist has designed a clever logo for this occasional feature. It will be a place to gripe about the things that irk you in everyday life: Village services, a surly storeowner, an unfair parking ticket, unnecessary noise, people who don&8217;t play by the...

Bruce Apar's Ethical Double Standard (and Goof) - (Found August 15, 2008 )

In the 99th Assembly district bitter words are being exchanged between challenger John Degnan and incumbent Greg Ball. The latter is accused of mailing out campaign literature containing lies about his opponent. The North County News, which advertised for a copy editor recently, still needs the services of a good copy editor or proofreader. The current edition features an editorial written by Editor in Chief + Publisher Bruce Apar from which we extracted the following gem: &8220;A Degnan...

So, Who am I Supposed to Talk with - (Found August 15, 2008 )

Complaint Corner is the place to gripe about the things that irk you in everyday life: Village services, a surly shopkeeper, an unfair parking ticket, unnecessary noise, people who don&8217;t play by the rules&8212;you name it. Perhaps others have had the same experience. By raising our voices and letting off steam, maybe we can effect changes. Here&8217;s another complaint that we&8217;ve received: My nagging frustration is the mystery of whose responsibility it is to remove the graffiti.

On Cellular Service in Croton - (Found August 15, 2008 )

To the editor: So many people are anxious for improved cell phone service that I thought it would be helpful to provide the information I have on this matter. To date, the Municipal Building has antennas on its chimneys that provide service for Nextel and Omnipoint (T-Mobile). This has improved service for users in the area covered by these antennas. Nextel proposed a cellular tower at the southern end of the station Parking Lot well more than a year ago. As this is a Special Permit...

No, I Can't Hear You Now... - (Found August 15, 2008 )

To the editor: I&8217;d like to encourage people with AT&T wireless cell service to call and file a quality of service complaint with them. Croton-on-Hudson is practically a dead zone for cell coverage on AT&T&8212;and the only way to hope for improvement is to file the complaint with them. 1-800-331-0500. &8212; Scott Cannizzaro
