Retractions and statements of clarification will never receive the same level of publicity that such remarks receive initially. The only thing that does is a high profile resignation or dismissal. In this scenario, it doesn't matter what the intention of Reiss's sentiment was, nor the clarification that may have been made later. The media interpretation was the only thing that the public heard. The resignation offers the only chance for the record to be...http://prospect.rsc.org/blogs/cw/?p=1155#comment-8236 Comment on Reactions to Reiss resignation by Ananyo- September 17, 2008 I don't disagree with what you've said here Alistair. But my understanding of it is that Reiss didn't say that creationism should be taught. Rather that teachers shouldn't be stopped from talking about if a child in their class raises it - if only to say - 'this isn't science'. Are we really saying that even that shouldn't be allowed Makes us look as dogmatic as the creationist crowd, doesn't ithttp://prospect.rsc.org/blogs/cw/?p=1155#comment-8234 Comment on Reactions to Reiss resignation by Alistair McBay- September 17, 2008 Lord Winston is wrong, Ananyo. Like Reiss, he misundertands the nature of the creationist and ID lobby. As an ordained vicar as well as a biologist, Reiss should have been more aware of the religious fundamentalism at work. The creationists are people who approach scientific enquiry claiming they already have the answer to the mysteries of the universe, an inviolate religious one, and who are not at all open to having their minds changed. They are the cuckoo in the nest of proper scientific...http://prospect.rsc.org/blogs/cw/?p=1155#comment-8233 Comment on EuCheMS: I forgot my umbrella by Richard- September 15, 2008 The rain it raineth on the just and also on the unjust fella. But chiefly on the just because the unjust steals the just's umbrella. Both are critically important to understand.http://prospect.rsc.org/blogs/cw/?p=1139#comment-8098 Comment on Greetings from ECHC by Richard- September 10, 2008 And if readers are interested, we'll also be having a special feature on microwaves for Chemistry World's next issue.http://prospect.rsc.org/blogs/cw/?p=1138#comment-8073 Comment on Magnetic birds by Jon- September 9, 2008 Fred, you're so naive. Don't you read the papers When the LHC is turned on, the birds' migratory path will be altered for around a fifth of a second as they are hoovered into the inevitable black hole. Confusing magnetic fields will be the least of their worries.http://prospect.rsc.org/blogs/cw/?p=1135#comment-8050 Comment on Cannabis takes on MRSA by Jon- September 8, 2008 Gov.
