You don't even need to legally change your name. My name is Michael Dickey. I could use M. L. Dickey on my ticket when signing up and basically get around most of the hassle. What's great is airlines won't tell you why you're being denied the ability to fly. They're not supposed to tell you about "The List," which is a completely lame way to go. Thanks Feds! "Sorry, you can't board this flight." "Why not" "You just aren't allowed to." "WTF" For as much j

I saw a report on CNN a few weeks ago that covers the same thing. They interviewed 3 people, a pilot, a US Air Marshal and the mother of a boy (now age 9) who are all on the list. The mother figured out that if she used her sons initials instead of his full name he could get by just fine. It baffles me on how common sense goes right out the window when you get to the airport. Like having women take off their shoes! What woman would blow up a perfectly good pair of shoes! Oh, and do

These additional security checks are supposed to be "random". But they are not. My wife and I are ALWAYS pulled aside. Every leg, every trip. (We just don't fly through the US any more.) What I understand is that the TSA baboons are supposed to do a certain number of random searches per hour. They select people that they think won't make too much a fuss and won't take too long. The businessman who keeps looking at his watch while hes talking on the pho

'Of course, this begs the question of why little blue-haired ladies and 8 year old little girls are pulled aside for "additional security checks". As I remember it the number of blue-haired ladies and 8 year old little girls who have hijacked or blown up airplanes (even combined) is somewhere between zero and none. ' It raises no question at all: These additional security checks are supposed to be "random". Therefore, you would expect as many 8 year olds as 8

Re-run the timed, worn out comment: do they really expect a terrorist to be flying under their own name on a one-way ticket in an aisle seat and a special meal > "Youralista Donna Worka" This calls to mind the creative pilot who submitted to mandatory photography in a not-to-be-named country whilst cheerfully holding up the ID card with a creative finger usage that got him into plenty of trouble. !! Despair.com have a new t-shirt out: Government - if you think the problems we create are bad, just wait until you see our solutions. I need a new name, something like I.M.N.S. Hole. It silly and juvenile but not half as the no-fly list is. !! Entry Link: Dodging The No-Fly List!!

They had something similar to this on Off the Hook recently, apparently 'John Robinson'(or similar) is on the watch list. A 5 year old boy with that name still flies because his mother gets him on to flights by booking as J. Pierce Robinson. !! Chief, How about changing it to Ichibod Spitton Ulist (I. Spitton Ulist ;-) I have always found it interesting (although not terribly impressive or amusing) that the No-Fly List relies on, perhaps, the least unique of choices about a person . . . their name. As most of us in the IT world know, not only is a person's name non-singular and non-unique but it is,, as you have demonstrated, also highly volatile. Of course, this begs the question of why little blue-hair
