LanDreamsThe natural and manmade landscapes.Winter Sets In- (Found July 2, 2008 ) After about 20 inches of snow fell in four days, the weather warmed and the rain melted much of the snowpack. For a couple of days the snow inched down off the roofs until large masses broke off and crashed to the ground, startling humans and animals alike. Winter's outfit is worn every day now, displaying mostly white and gray. Even the trees seem to have forgotten how to be green.http://clearwaterlandscapes.com/news/index.php?p=44&c=1 Snowshoe Tracks- (Found July 2, 2008 ) This is Cindy's photo looking east from the house, near sunset with the full moon rising. We gave each other snowshoes for Christmas and tried them out down through the meadow. The weather has turned too cold even for snowshoeing, the high today predicted around zero. It was minus 26 degrees at 5 AM. The cold reminds us of our first few years out on this land, late 70's - early 80's, when temps would normally go well below zero around this time of year. One year we had forty below and at...http://clearwaterlandscapes.com/news/index.php?p=45&c=1 Green Energy, January 2004- (Found July 2, 2008 ) The January issue of Green Energy is available by clicking this link.http://clearwaterlandscapes.com/news/index.php?p=46&c=1 Climate Change May Threaten More Than One Million Species With Extinction- (Found July 2, 2008 ) (Washington, DC) - Climate change could drive more than a quarter of land animals and plants into extinction, according to a major new study published in tomorrow's edition of the journal Nature. Three strong storms in three days have certainly chilled that idea. The little diesel tractor below is a lawnmower part of the year and a snow plow and blower in the winter. It is surprisingly effective, but we've had so much snow lately that a neighbor with much more powerful tractor has come over to widen the snow berms along the drive. I've shoveled so much snow off the deck...http://clearwaterlandscapes.com/news/index.php?p=48&c=1 Early Spring- (Found July 2, 2008 ) It would be nice if spring were on its way, but these daffodils and tulips originated from the florist, and have given much joy to our home for over a week. The weather has settled into cabin fever mode...fairly cold days with gray skies. No new snow to break up the monotony. Today has started out sunny for a change, so it will be very difficult to keep my mind on my work. I'm sure I can find an outdoor project to keep me busy for awhile.http://clearwaterlandscapes.com/news/index.php?p=49&c=1 Green Energy, February 25, 2004- (Found July 2, 2008 ) The February issue of Green Energy is online at: http:clearwaterlandscapes.comarticle_dormant.htmhttp://clearwaterlandscapes.com/news/index.php?p=50&c=1 Climatic Catastrophe- (Found July 2, 2008 ) Insurer warns of global warming catastrophe By Thomas Atkins GENEVA (Reuters) - The world's second-largest reinsurer, Swiss Re, warned on Wednesday that the costs of natural disasters, aggravated by global warming, threatened to spiral out of control, forcing the human race into a catastrophe of its own making. Not far, but the relationship with this land and its plants will be very difficult to leave. Perhaps we aren't actually leaving the relationship, but not being in direct touch with this piece of earth daily will be a hardship not easily overcome. I expect we will immediately begin developing new relationships...I'll write about them as they progress. For some time, though, we'll be too busy for writing and other fun stuff.http://clearwaterlandscapes.com/news/index.php?p=53&c=1 |
