ROMAN Brooch : SWYOR-8F7C35 - September 11, 2008

A copper alloy Roman headstud brooch, dating to the 2nd century AD. This brooch is incomplete, with only the upper bow and head remaining. Where the bow connects to the head, there is a depression which would have contained the headstud, with a vertical ridge above. There is blue enamel still on the wings in the shape of diamonds; three intact on the right and one enameled on the left. MEDIEVAL Strap fitting : SWYOR-8F4AE4 - September 11, 2008

A copper alloy strap fitting, possibly a buckle probably dating from the twelfth century. The object has a rectangular loop with a zoomorphic hollow backed outer edge, and a wide and decorated bar. This makes it doubtful that the object was used as a buckle as the strap would hide the decorated bar, and the width of the bar would prevent a pin from attaching to it easily. POST MEDIEVAL Buckle : SWYOR-8F3714 - September 11, 2008

A copper alloy post-Medieval buckle. It is probably a knee or shoe buckle and the frame is drilled for a separate spindle in the centre (now missing). The buckle frame comprises of a large central oval with two smaller circular holes either side; top and bottom. It has a square section, thickening at the top and bottom of the central oval part of the frame. A copper-alloy capsule, probably associated with a 6th century Anglo-Saxon burial. The capsule is cylindrical, and made from a rolled piece of copper-alloy sheet. EARLY MEDIEVAL Ring : NCL-836005 - September 10, 2008

A handmade, perhaps wrought iron ring and 2 fragments of an iron rod or bar, probably associated with a 6th century Anglo-Saxon burial. The ring is 54.62mm in diameter and 8.73mm thick. It is D-shaped in section with the inner edge of the ring flat. There are two patches of thicker corrosion on opposite sides of the ring, perhaps related to its function or a form of attachment. The longer rod or bar is 58.01mm in length, 10.63mm in width, and 7.94mm thick. It is sub-rectangular to sub-oval.
