Barracuda refused to turn over 1100 emails in a F.O.I.A. Stating they are of a personal nature, when they are not. Thats a federal crime. Its a pre-meditated crime, which to commit the crime of illegally shielding government documents is why she was using the account in the first place. Moreover the Attorney Generals Office of the great state of Alaska just issued an opinion that if government documents are in a private e-mail account, the State has the right to review them, that they must be s

I agree. I also suspect this whole thing will add a lot more fuel to the fire in the browser wars. Should there be a shift in business to more cloud computing, organizations will still have their focus on security, but it seems the internet browser will continue to become more and more important as time goes on. !! Comment by Dan Morrill on In the face of job losses where are customer records going - September 17, 2008

Patrik, that is what makes this so scary, all that information, international banking, accounts, corporate accounts, all just there and no one knows who has control of the data at this point. There has been no news on how the companies are living up to SOX, PCI, or other regulations as of yet. Folks probably won't think to ask either for a while until something bad shows up. !! There has to be better security around cloud computing, and there are some great sites for this already in existence, that is a blog entry and a half on that one. More new stuff coming, what makes this interesting, some of the best unexplored information security to happen in a while. This should be a lot of fun, and a great learning opportunity. !! This is the point I've been trying to make for years; A disgruntled employee (imaginge 26'000 of them,) with nothing to lose is a bigger security risk than a poorly maintained firewall. And as you say, who's at the gate Someone who was just fired, probably. Why would he care who goes in or out and what they're carrying.. !! Entry Link: In the face of job losse

That's pretty interesting, Dan. I did some poking around on Cloud Ave and came across a link to Oprius. They have a nice little demo on their site that you can play with. It was like someone put my Google home page into an iPhone, locked it in a cage, and then force fed it steroids for a month. That's a lot of information to keep outside the cozy confines of the cubicle. I realize that's exactly what I'm doing by keeping a calendar, resumes, and every piece of personal email I've
