Twitters Error Message - January 30, 2008

Look, a new error image for Twitter. Nice, it's even got robots, but I wish they would please hurry up and move to the new servers and get it a little more stable. Tags: error move hurry servers little

Pinger: Twitter for voice - January 29, 2008

Pinger's been around a little while now, but just rolled out across the UK in recent days. The service enables users to send up to a five-minute voicemail for the price of a local call to other mobile numbers in around twenty countries. Such a voicemail, or pinger' is created using IVR voice prompts for usernames, number entry and the message itself; the notion of a completely voice operated mobile messaging service is an appealing one and coupled with the immediacy and asynchronism of a...

More Stuff That Super Bowl Ads Are Made Of - January 26, 2008

Not to be outdone by the Pepsi creative team the Bud Lite Creative team was quick to fire off an email to me with a tease of their Super Bowl spots and I must say they too are playing with the human emotions in brilliant Super Bowl fashion. Looking at all these Super Bowl spots ahead of time feels kind or wrong to me - Kind of like seeing Mickey with his head off but what the heck here's a little tease of what you are going to see:A-B has made teasers of several of the spots they'll be running..

Rent or Buy: Samples of Companies Using New Media Content - January 24, 2008

I just tripped across the Custom Content Conference being held this March in New Orleans. It is targeted at brand managers and ad folks who may be considering creating their own serialized web content or new mediasocial media channels. I thought I'd mention a few of the companies who have already ventured in to this arena, and hopefully you may have some more to add to the list. Whole Foods has been doing this for about a year with both audio and video podcasts, all of which are produced using.

Get SMS Alerts for Your Favorite RSS Feeds with Pingie Cell Phones - January 24, 2008

Webapp Pingie takes any RSS feed and alerts you of new items in that feed via SMS message. It would be a bit ridiculous to subscribe to the full Lifehacker feed (or other frequently updating sites) with Pingie, because no one really wants 18-plus text messages a day. However, now that you know how to slice and dice Lifehacker feeds to get only the content you want, services like Pingie or previously mentioned Web-alerts could come in very handy with our Feature feed or our daily download...

Promoting Your Media - January 17, 2008

Once you've started building media, like a podcast, or a new videoblog, the very next thing that happens is that you want people to actually see it and experience it. One of the most common questions I'm asked by people who blog or podcast is how to grow their audience. Audience does make a difference in making media, at least if your goal is to build conversations and relationships. Here are a few tips to getting the word out to prospective new people. Your Email Signature Stick a link to...

Why I feel that Dreamhost is patronizing me. - January 16, 2008

Every company makes mistakes, and I'm actually quite forgiving about it, what they do next is what will make or break me as a customer, and I have the habit of telling a few thousand people. I've been a customer of Dreamhost since I've had this domain and have had quite a few outages, and recently my blog was 403 (forbidden to others), as they forgot to fix all the settings when I moved to a dedicated server. Despite these hardships (which I'm willing to let go, you know I used to work at...

Barack Obama&39;s 2002 Speech - January 15, 2008

I've seen lots of references to Obama's October, 2002 speech at an anti-war rally in Chicago. I've not seen copies of the speech. Using Brewster's Wayback machine, I was able to find a copy of the speech on Obama's 2002 site. It is as follows: Obama: I'm not against wars but COLUMN FOR THE HYDE PARK HERALD FOR WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2002 by Senator Barack Obama, D-13 The following is a speech that I gave at a recent rally regarding the situation in Iraq. The rally was downtown at Federal...

The lost art of paying attention - January 15, 2008

Small rant here. One of my colleagues got a phone message the other day that was actually meant for me. Fortunately, it was only my dentist's office calling and not something embarrassing like the bank calling to tell me they were going to repo my car. But here's the deal. The woman who left the message listened to my colleague's entire phone greeting, delivered in an obviously male voice, clearly stating "This is Fred Smith, Director of Web Development. ..." then left this message: "Hi Toni,...

How to grab an image of your entire screen in Firefox - January 9, 2008

I've been pulling my hair out trying to remember how to do an entire browser screen grab in Mac OSX. I needed a shot of the whole screen, even beneath the scrollbar. I threw the question out to my good friends on Twitter, but most of the answers were ones I already knew. However, I really do appreciate everyone's support on this. Thanks guys. Cmd-Shift-3 : will take a full screen shot and save the image to your desktop. Cmd-Shift-4 : will give you a pointer, you can then hold the mouse down and.
