PR Wire Service to Journalists & Bloggers: We Don&39;t Need You - February 15, 2008

We received an interesting email today from Business Wire, a press release wire service that Warren Buffett bought in March 2006. Currently Business Wire is ranked about 32 on the Techmeme Leaderboard, which puts it above some top tech blogs (but not ReadWriteWeb, which is ranked 6 currently). The email claimed that companies and marketers can use Business Wire to bypass journalists and bloggers to get into key news sources like Techmeme and search engine results too. Is this true I think it's.

New Media Gurus Raving About Apple TV Update - February 15, 2008

People working in new media are starting to try out the Apple TV update, and most are giving it rave reviews. We published an in-depth Apple TV review and walkthrough yesterday, and gave Apple TV 2 a B. We like the new movie features, but the podcast support is confusing and makes it hard to find and watch video podcasts. We may tough to please, though, because many podcasters are giving the device unqualified praise: Indiefeed publisher and ADM head Chris MacDonald says Apple TV may very well.

$3.5 Billion Building Up for Sale - February 14, 2008

The most expensive building in the world is up for sale, with a $3.5 billion price tag. Its owner, Harry Macklowe, has been served a default notice, which has forced him to put his greatest asset on the block. It'll be fascinating to see how much it goes for, in the end: Macklowe bought the building in 2003 for $1.4 billion, which gives you an idea of how much of a run-up there was in commercial property. When the building's sold, I have a feeling that the purchase price will set and hold the..

Overlay.TV Lets You Cover Videos With Stuff - February 14, 2008

Let me start this by saying that many startups have tried to make a funny infomercial, but these guys actually succeeded. The fellow's phony hair and thin mustache, the oldschool computer equipment, and the recognizable 70ies yellowish tone of the video - well, it made me laugh a couple of times. See the video below, and don't forget - it's just that simple! Overlay.TV enables you to place various text, graphics and animations over a video. The platform enables you to stream videos from...

Pinger Delivers Free, Visual Voicemaila Time-Saver - February 7, 2008

Tired of sitting and waiting through a chain of voicemails to see if any of them are important to you Silicon Valley-based Pinger has a new web-centric answer to the problem. I've used Pinger in the past because it's a convenient way to broadcast text-based messages and e-mail attachments to a group by recording just one voice message. Now, the company has added a free (or primarily free) visual voicemail service for mobile phones to the mix. I wish the service supported more service...

Delegate tally (and We Don't Need No Stinkin' Widget Industry) - February 6, 2008

MSNBC has a lot of nice new interactive stuff and they seem to have embraced the concept of sharing, even doing on-air promos directed at bloggers about the network site's newly embeddable videos. Couple suggestions, one little and picky, one more strategic: - The delegate tally widget, with the cool rollovers showing more granular state detail, needs to be displayed a little bigger than the default size, if you want to play with the detail, but it doesn't go up so gracefully with.

Forget Twitter Issues... ReadBurner is Down! - February 1, 2008

Just yesterday, I suggested that ReadBurner was, by far, the most impressive product to debut on the Web so far in 2008. Of course, given that was in January, the change in the calendar to February 1 could also mean a change of luck. Around midnight last night, I was unable to check in on ReadBurner and see the most shared posts or those getting momentum - and was halfway through e-mailing the developer behind the site, when I figured he probably already knew about it.Of course, he is aware of..
