Just Another Twitter Post - April 30, 2008

There has been a lot of buzz on our blog about Twitter lately - with good reason. Companies are starting to understand the marketing power behind Twitter and what it can do to get the word out about your latest blog post, product, service or whatever message you want to convey in 140 characters. Two days ago, Chris Brogan asked his followers on Twitter to 'tweet' him "Hi Cross Tech" as he was in a business meeting, and I assume was discussing the effectiveness of Twitter. I wonder just how many.

ScrnShots is Flickr for Your Screenshots - April 30, 2008

Scrnshots, currently in private beta, is meant to serve as a community for designers to share their screenshots of interesting or beautiful designs. However, the service, which allows you to upload shots which others can use via an embed code, has the potential to be more than just a niche community for artistic types. About ScrnShots At first glance, ScrnShots appears to be a takeoff on sites like FFFFOUND! or We Heart It (our coverage). Those sites let you "favorite" pictures from.

The Pirates Dilemma - April 30, 2008

When punk music and the social scene around it came around, music was deeply entrenched in the record industry's current offering: disco. Punk showed up with far more attitude than aptitude and proceeded to take a big fat gouge out of the profits and expectations of the larger recordmusic industry, and people responded. People suddenly realized a music and an ethos where they could participate. Instead of fancy clothes or impossible musical setups, people could do punk with a very limited...

Bookmarking Meets Lifestreaming with Lifestream.fm Acquisition - April 30, 2008

German social bookmarking startup Mister Wong yesterday afternoon announced the acquisition of Lifestream.fm, a lifestreaming start up that's something like Friend Feed without the interactivity and using Twitter's design. While "lifestreaming" still barely registers on Google searches according to Google Trends, it is one of the most talked about new phenomena in the blogosphere (see this BlogPulse trend graph). Though Lifestream.fm isn't one of the top players (Friend Feed gets all the...

Nevermind The Recession, The Web Will Change The World! - April 30, 2008

Since the Web 2.0 Expo last week, two parallel questions are being asked about the current era of the Web: a) Are we about to enter into a recession, and if so does that mean an end to the current 'web 2.0' era of innovation in web technology; b) Why aren't we (meaning startups) tackling the "big, hard problems" with web technologies My conclusion is that while recession may be coming, this won't mean an end to web innovation - because we'll need plenty of that to take on the big, real world..

Nobody explains concepts like blogs, wikis, Twitter, RSS, photo sharing, and the like in plain english better than Lee LeFever and the gang at Common Craft. I can't recommend their videos highly enough, and I use them ALL THE TIME to teach people about this social media stuff that we do. Lee and crew have done it again with their latest video, Podcasting in Plain English. Stop what you're doing and watch it now. Then share it with anyone to whom you've ever tried or wanted to explain what...

WorldTV Smartly Adds Qik Support for Live, Mobilecasts - April 10, 2008

While WorldTV has been a long time in the making, the self-broadcasting Internet television service still had a bit of catching up to do, when looked at comparatively against services like Mogulus. However, WorldTV announces today that it now supports Qik, one of the more popular live mobile streaming services that's being used for the inclusion of live broadcasting from mobile devices. The support of Qik means that the playing field is getting more level for WorldTV, as it begins to build..
