What I'll be playing with this weekend - Asus Eee PC - February 23, 2008

Asus EEE PC, originally uploaded by Josh Bancroft. There's a new Intel marketing blog launching next week. I'll post a link when it's ready, but I've been working with the folks doing it, trying to help them do it right - get other bloggers in the community involved, get stuff into the hands of bloggers to use and live with, so they can write real opinions of it, rather than just doing it the standard marketing way. Good stuff. Anyway, as part of these activities, I've got an Asus Eee...

Whoa, Bold Move: Kid-Sized "Mini Eames" Chairs From Park Life - February 22, 2008

Now there is a bold, trademarky move. Anyone can make a scaled-down kid's version of classic Eames designs like the molded ply DCM chair and the fiberglass shell rockers; in fact, I'd argue that it's a crime no one--cough Herman Miller cough cough--has made any before. So I imagine San Francisco-based gallerypublisherdesign boutique Park Life will find a warm reception for their 23 scale chairs among Eames-craving parents. And even if Herman Miller's legal goons give them grief, I suspect...

How and Why I Added Daily Microposts from Twitter Posts - February 22, 2008

I've had a dilemma for a long time. it started when i began using Twitter a lot, which has been over a year now. For anyone who doesn't know, Twitter is a service that lets you post 140 character updates on what you're doing, which are read only by people who follow you, and you see only tweets (updates) from people that you follow. Sort of like a chat room where you get to decide who you hear. Twitter is awesome, and I use it heavily. I've carefully cultivated a list of about 325 people that I.

notes from west texas - February 21, 2008

A still from "No Country For Old Men", which was filmed around Marfa, the next town over from Alpine, Texas, where my father lives. "There Will Be Blood" was filmed around here, as well. This is my sixth full day in Alpine. Here are some notes on my time here so far, in no particular order: 1. Alpine, population circa 6,000, is actually a pretty prosperous place as far as West Texas towns go. This is mainly due to Sul Ross State University, where my dad used to teach before he retired....

Dinner Tonight: Mussels with Tomato Broth and Penne - February 21, 2008

It began its life as a pizza sauce, nothing more than some canned tomatoes, a slug of red wine and olive oil, and some salt. After all the dough was used, I poured the bright red liquid into a plastic container and moved it to the back of the fridge. In the old days (probably a year ago) I would have forgotten about it until a week later when I'd open it up, give it smell, and then wash it down the drain. But no longer. Ever since I discovered eggs in purgatory, I've never had a problem.

43 Folders: Best of GTD - February 20, 2008

NPR: Tech Junkies Crazy About Getting Things Done' As an insufferably huge public broadcasting nerd, I was happy to hear (via our pal, Ryan) that 43 Folders was mentioned in tonight's All Things Considered story about Getting Things Done. Since this may be the first time some folks have visited the site, I wanted to highlight a few of my favorite GTD posts from the past four years. We talk about lots more than GTD here, but it's definitely a lot of my readers' favorite topic. Thanks for...

Cupertino Ink - February 15, 2008

I'm a man who drinks lustily from the heady draught of adventure. So obviously, I've bookmarked ModBlog. This is a nearly-daily dose of photos of stories about people's tattoos. And piercings. And brandings. Andwell, apparently there's this new thing where you actually have a design cut into your skin, and then the artwork turns into a raised scar. I could continue, but there's an orange DPW sign posted in the road just past the scar art and it reads ENTERING ANDY IHNATKO'S PERSONAL CREEP-OUT..

HotOrNot Sale: Lesson In How To Have Fun and Make Millions - February 12, 2008

If Otter and Boon from Animal House had grown up to be dot-com guys in Silicon Valley, they would be James Hong and Jim Young, the founders of HotOrNot -- a dating Web site where users crassly rate people based on their looks. It's the Net equivalent of holding up judge's scoring cards as potential partners walk by in a bar. Hong and Young started the site just because they thought it would be funny. They got the idea while drinking and talking about a girl they knew. And they just sold it for.
