Comments on: Killing IE 6Robert Accettura's Personal Blog on Web Development and TechBy: carlo amoroso- July 14, 2008 i simply agree.. with the &8220;killing of ie6&8230;&8221; and let&8217;s think about another field, movie! if you want to see a DVD.. you use a DVD player, If you want to see a blu-ray movie, you need that player. try to play a blu-ray disc in a DVD player, you see nothing So.. if you want to seeuseplay &8220;modern web sites&8221; you need &8220;modern browsers&8221;. and the best part is that all new modern browser are free&8230;.That&8217;s all! ;-Dhttp://robert.accettura.com/blog/2008/07/03/killing-ie-6/#comment-380822 By: Michael Lefevre- July 7, 2008 &8220;I dont know of any major sites that explicitly support Omniweb, Konqueror, Camino, Seamonkey, but they work as they share code with WebKit and Gecko&8221; They _should_ work, but if the site looks at the user agent and decides not to serve any content, they may not. If they have written a site which at least attempts to follow some standards, and it doesn&8217;t work in IE6, that&8217;s fine. But, based on my experience with idisk and Firefox 3, and reading of this stuff, it sounds more.http://robert.accettura.com/blog/2008/07/03/killing-ie-6/#comment-373833 By: eatme- July 7, 2008 I would relegate IE6 to the text only template but a corporate environment is stuck on IE6 with no plans to upgrade, so i cant kill yet. Sucks to be me.http://robert.accettura.com/blog/2008/07/03/killing-ie-6/#comment-373011 By: Robert- July 5, 2008 Michael Lefevre: They never supported Opera AFAIK, so they didn&8217;t change anything in that regard. By supporting Firefox they support all gecko browsers&8230; I don&8217;t know of any major sites that explicitly support Omniweb, Konqueror, Camino, Seamonkey, but they work as they share code with WebKit and Gecko. Xandrex: There are many Windows Safari users who are happy, just because it doesn&8217;t please you, doesn&8217;t mean it doesn&8217;t &8220;work&8221;. You cannot use a working Safari if you don&8217;t have MacOSX. You can get Firefox 3 if you use Linux MacOSX or Windows 2000XPVista. Given that, options are not available for all users. In fact, in an enterprise network, we are lucky Firefox developped the NTML authentication, otherwise corporate users wouldn&8217;t be able to use Firefox in an Internet Explorer oriented network. You&8217;re talking...http://robert.accettura.com/blog/2008/07/03/killing-ie-6/#comment-369696 By: Michael Lefevre- July 4, 2008 I&8217;m not against killing IE 6, but is this method really to be applauded As I understand it, they are also not supporting Opera, or Omniweb, Konqueror, Camino, Seamonkey, etc etc. Supporting specific browsers and versions isn&8217;t &8220;the start of a better web&8221; - it&8217;s just the same closed situation as 10 years ago but with higher version numbers and some different names. Also, idisk doesn&8217;t (currently) support Firefox 3. Works fine in Firefox 2, but just comes up...http://robert.accettura.com/blog/2008/07/03/killing-ie-6/#comment-369572 By: Jos Jeria- July 4, 2008 pd Same goes for IE 8&8230;http://robert.accettura.com/blog/2008/07/03/killing-ie-6/#comment-369446 |
