P2P redistribution of Technical Preview- March 29, 2004 A couple people suggested p2p mechanisms as a way to enable downloads for anyone, and asked about restrictions on copying in the EULA. Offhand, P2P seems like a great solution here, and I've started a thread with our legal department about making it so the EULA doesn't preclude it. It's going to take a while to resolve - you can imagine that a request to enable massive copying of software is somewhat unusual :-) In any case changes would not show up in the EULA until.http://blogs.msdn.com/markcli/archive/2004/03/29/101448.aspx March Technical Preview and non-MSDN subscribers- March 29, 2004 I received a question asking howif people who aren't MSDN subscribers can get this build. Unfortunately, we do not yet have a way to enable this. The issue is really one of not figuring out the logistics yet - we want to do this. There are two (obvious) approaches - some kind of media fulfillment process (e.g. pay a small shippinghandling charge and we'll mail it to you) and downloads. The issue with the former is that whenif we drop builds more...http://blogs.msdn.com/markcli/archive/2004/03/29/101259.aspx Visual Studio 2005 Technical Preview March 2004- March 26, 2004 ... also known as Whidbey. People are starting to get this - some got it at VSLiveMDC, MSDN subscribers can download it now, and we're in the process of manufacturing and shipping media to alpha participants, MVPs and PDC attendees (should start showing up over the next week). This is not beta-quality. We run weeks of tests prior to shipping a beta, and fix very little during that time other than major showstoppers. This build in contrast has roughly one night of...http://blogs.msdn.com/markcli/archive/2004/03/26/97164.aspx Microsoft Values- March 19, 2004 (Warning: This is squishy and abstract and has nothing to do with developer technology.) I just came back from a management development course called &8220;Values-based Leadership&8221;. The premise of the course is that by understanding one's personal values and melding them with the company's values, one can provide more credible and effective leadership. I had a few thoughts and questions afterwards - I figure I'll put them out to the world and see what comes...http://blogs.msdn.com/markcli/archive/2004/03/19/92611.aspx Any timing on the Whidbey Beta yet- March 11, 2004 I got this beta timing question a few days back. I'm sure you've heard this before, but we don't announce betarelease dates mostly because we don't know exactly when the developmenttesting stars will line up. While I can't tell you when the beta will be, I can tell you that we will be releasing a non-beta-quality build in a matter of weeks. This build won't be for everyone - it will have very limited testing, it maywill have significant bugs, it probably won't...http://blogs.msdn.com/markcli/archive/2004/03/11/88106.aspx |
