Syd had suffered from substance abuse and mental illness early on, which led to his departure from Pink Floyd as singer, guitarist and songwriter. The news made me sad on several different levels. First, the fact that another life was lost to the Type 2 diabetes, the type of diabetes that can be managed and controlled in many cases.
