Jon's RamblingsJon's Ramblings - LiveJournal.comMS and Firefox use same logo- December 23, 2005 So Microsoft and Firefox are going to use the same logo for the RSS feed function.Well strap me to an oilrig and whip me with seaweed.Naturally, the softies are crowing about "open standards" and "embracing the leading technology" and other hoo-hah.Frankly its an insult. Its a logo ferchrissakes.Lets have an announcement that IE7.1 and Firefox 2.0 will render pages identically. Now that would be worth crowing about.http://jonhoneyball.livejournal.com/8928.html Alistair Cooke's 'bones stolen"- December 22, 2005 I had to check the date.... nope, its not April 1st...http:news.bbc.co.uk1hiworldamericas4552742.stmMy mind is boggling at 10k rpm.http://jonhoneyball.livejournal.com/8608.html Boggle- December 22, 2005 Look at this and wonder why so much manufacturing is screwed up:http:forums.vwvortex.comzerothreadid=1837641http://jonhoneyball.livejournal.com/8351.html Burp- December 22, 2005 Can I just make it clear that those little coffee-sized pyramid packs of baileys that they are test marketing down here have a most efficacious effect on the first coffee of the morning Makes the forthcoming day seem even mildly bearable :-)http://jonhoneyball.livejournal.com/7966.html Crumblies Lunch- December 20, 2005 So the local pub in the village, the most excellent Cherry Tree Pub, decides it would be a fine idea to invite all the village over-65's along for a free Christmas Lunch. This is a most generous and charitable act. The pub itself is superb, and their food is top notch for a local pub. Sunday lunch is 11.95 for three courses, and frankly you are doing well to be able to walk after it -- a huge starter followed by full roast course and then a big dessert with coffee. Dad and I quite often mooch up.http://jonhoneyball.livejournal.com/7787.html E-christmas e-card- December 19, 2005 An email I sent out to business colleagues around the world this morning. Am posting it here for anyone else who should have received an xmas card from me. Which means you lot and others too.JonDear All!This is just a little e-christmas card saying Happy Christmas and best wishes for the new year.Rather than spend the money on cards and postage, especially to friends abroad, I've decided to put the money in a heap, buy a big selection of chocolate biscuits, mince pies and other lovely things.http://jonhoneyball.livejournal.com/7607.html swoon- December 15, 2005 The cello is a most wonderful instrument -- one of my favourites. And we have been blessed with some great players -- Fournier, Cassals, Du Pre, and today Yo Yo Ma carries the candle. The soundtrack to Crouching Tiger is utterly captivating. His playing is truly magical here. Always brings an inner sadness when I listen to it, because it was what I listened to at the end of the days last Christmas when mum was in hospital. Hey ho.http://jonhoneyball.livejournal.com/7220.html Car Insanity- December 14, 2005 Bentley came back from Bentley Essex in Colchester yesterday -- they had fixed a few niggly items, including a dicky pressure sensor in the turbo section. this was generating occasional spiky readings causing the engine ECU to shut down everything into safe mode. Still, an unturbocharged 6.75 litre V8 isnt exactly slow, though it pales into insignificance compared to the on-boost warp factor 10 performance of the car when it is on song.I hadnt managed to get to grips with the fully integrated...http://jonhoneyball.livejournal.com/6971.html Music industry- December 14, 2005 This track just popped up on the iTunes shuffling listSo I went looking on the web to discover when it actually was recorded. And found http:www.rocksteadycrew.comWhich tells me:"During these spectacular performances Charisma Records approached the Rock Steady Crew with a record deal. The record Hey You, The Rock Steady Crew was in the top ten charts in Great Britain and sold over a million copies. The Crew, however, saw very little of the proceeds. Due to their lack of knowledge of the music...http://jonhoneyball.livejournal.com/6809.html Mac Xserve hardware- December 13, 2005 Fired up the rather nice Server Monitoring tools that come with OSX Server -- they keep an eye on my two xserves, one a twin proc g4 with 4 discs in 2 mirrors, and the other is a single proc g5 with 3 discs, one of them boot and two in a data mirror.Woooooo.... red flashy lights. Seems the first two dimms in the G4 xserve have gone dicky - the box takes 4 dimms, and it has 4 x 512mb in there. Pull the box out of the rack, and its the original apple-supplied ram thats gone duff. Pull em out,...http://jonhoneyball.livejournal.com/6563.html |
