NOAA announced today that a very active hurricane season is looming. For the 2006 north Atlantic hurricane season, NOAA is predicting 13 to 16 named storms, with eight to 10 becoming hurricanes, of which four to six could become 'major' hurricanes of Category 3 strength or higher. May 21-27 is National Hurricane Preparedness Week, NOAA encourages everyone to make preparations to protect their lives and livelihoods

...NOAA Hurricane Preparedness Campaign Goes Airborne... - May 1, 2006

With the record-breaking 2005 Atlantic hurricane season still etched on the coastline from Texas to Florida, forecasters from the National Hurricane Center will join the aircrew from the NOAA Aircraft Operations Center on a hurricane hunter aircraft tour from May 1 - 5. The mission will increase hurricane awareness and encourage preparedness along the Gulf coast and Florida.
