I've moved- January 31, 2004 I decided to make life more interesting for myself by hosting my blog at home. The new URL is http:www.mikemelia.com See you over there :)http://www.jroller.com/tricky/entry/i_ve_moved Stunning figures!- January 26, 2004 Simon's latest blog highlights some interesting performance figures for the Java and C versions of Simian. I'm sure lots of people will have something to say about those figures but the one thing that stands out for me is that Simon's code can examine a codebase as large as the JDK 1.4.1_02 source for copy'n'paste in under 13 seconds! That is seriously impressive.http://www.jroller.com/tricky/entry/stunning_figures Back on the Certification Trail- January 26, 2004 After a few weeks of distractions I am back on the dotNet study trail. Ive set a date for the first exam and hopefully that will force me to make time for study. I did say that I would use this blog to pass on any snippets of important info that I pick up and this post falls into that category. I am using two books to help me get there - a fat book and a thinner book. Obviously the difference is in the detail and the reviews claim that the fat book has more than enough information to get..http://www.jroller.com/tricky/entry/div_class_section1_p_nbsp A lesson re-learned- January 10, 2004 At 6pm yesterday I discovered a problem in my codebase - isn't that always the case Just about to shut off for the weekend and something crops up that cannot be there on Monday morning. After a mild panic I worked out a solution and ploughed into the code, desperately trying to get the fix in place before I went home. At 7pm yesterday I realised how stupid I was to attempt to just apply a quck fix. All good practices had gone out of the window, the solution had not worked and now I was...http://www.jroller.com/tricky/entry/a_lesson_re_learned Grrrr! Why can't I format my posts better- January 5, 2004 I'm such a novice at blogging - I'm playing with using Newsgator to post the blog but I haven't worked out how to get the formatting right. For the previous post I went through the following steps: 1. Edit the post in WordOutlook using Newsgator 2. while (unhappyWithFormatting) 3. edit it using a jroller editor because the formatting was screwed; There were many iterations through steps 2 and 3. I need to work out a better way because this is too...http://www.jroller.com/tricky/entry/grrrr_why_can_t_i You can depend on me- January 5, 2004 Im using Maven on my current assignment. I have a lot of projects, each building one artifact, and a lot of interdependencies. I really wanted to cut down on duplication (for we know that is bad) so Maven appealed to me as the thought of editing stacks of project.xml files was not an appealing one. Ive found it a decent tool for the job despite the (sometimes obvious) immaturity - which brings me to my current problem. Maven does not currently offer transitive dependencies. For...http://www.jroller.com/tricky/entry/div_class_section1_p_class So, what am I doing- January 5, 2004 Bugger! Gotta start somewhere... Right, for a few good reasons that I'll go into some other time, I'm skilling up on dotNet. Yup, I'm biting the bullet and crossing the line, going over to the dark side. The company are supporting me while I study for the MCSD exams - I've just got to put the hard hours in (outside of billable time, of course). As a javahead (tm), the technology shouldn't be a huge problem. I mean, FFS, it's not gonna be a huge leap is it Anyway, I'm going...http://www.jroller.com/tricky/entry/test |
