Re: The Shell - (Found June 19, 2008 )

Simply because it is a symbol of the pilgrimage to Santiago. The tradition was that Medieval pirlgims took a shell home. But for the life of me I can't see that it would be proof since they could have picked one up at any medieval fish mongers on the way back But there ain't no rules - some people may wish to emulate their medieval counterparts and others want to display the shell as a universal symbol of the pilgrimage. in Santiago de Compostela Today

In an earlier post someone mentioned not putting a return address on the label and that sounds like a good idea if they will let you get away with it. in Santiago de Compostela Today

Re: Aong the Templar Trail: Seven Million Steps for Peace, B. Wi - (Found June 19, 2008 )

Brandon is a very humble person - as you will learn if you read about his life and achievements on Wikipedia: http:en.wikipedia.orgwikiBrandon_WilsonBesides his incredible walk to Jerusalem his long distance trails include London to Cape Town: he and his wife were the first Western couple to walk an ancient 1,000-km pilgrimage path from Lhasa, Tibet to Kathmandu, Nepal: he was the first American to walk the Via Francigena from England to Rome: two Camino Frances in 1999 & 2005; the Via de la...

Reality - (Found June 19, 2008 )

Hi All,Well I finally completed my Camino adventure. It took 34 days to walk from SJPP to Fisterre, and let me tell you this has been a mindblowing experience. Living a simple life of walking, sharing, reflecting and friendships has been so moving. I'm struggling being back in my so-called 'real' life. What is real They say the life I'm leading back home is the real thing, I don't think so, the Camino is what is 'real' in life. Are there people out there who are experiencing these kind of...

Re: Pilgrim stats - (Found June 19, 2008 )

Thanks, Sil, for the statistics. You certainly make sure we have all the latest information. I wonder if you know whether the official site has the historical data broken down by month and camino followed -- I can't find it. In other words, I see that in April this year, 303 were on the vdlp, and in May it was 862. Is there any way to compare those vdlp totals with earlier years on the vdlp in April and May I'm interested in getting a sense of the increase in traffice on that route in...

Re: The Peaceable: A New Place to Stop on the Meseta - (Found June 19, 2008 )

Thanks for this information about your home along the Camino Frances. I have been worrying about silly things in preparation for my journey alone starting in Sept this year, like having a bed every night and meeting people who I can relate to. What I am getting from this web site is that there is a global community out there that has created an oasis of spritual space unknown in our modern world and I look forward to stepping into this unusual environment along my way. I appreciate your care...
