Burning ban returns to Chatham and other counties - March 28, 2008

With the return of dry weather, low humidity and sporadic high winds, several brush fires were reported in the Triangle area yesterday. Given the hazardous situation, the NC Division of Forest Resources has once again issued a burning ban for 100 counties, effective at noon today.

Variety of scams targeting seniors on the increase - March 28, 2008

State and federal agencies have reported a variety of new fraud schemes across the state and nation aimed at getting money from seniors and other vulnerable citizens, said Angel Dennison, director of the Chatham County Council on Aging. At least one of these has showed up in Chatham County.

22 Seton Hill students volunteer for Habitat for Humanity in Pittsboro during spring break - March 17, 2008

Twenty-two students and three Seton Hill University staff members have volunteered to participate in the Seton Hill Campus Ministry's annual Habitat for Humanity Spring Break trip. From March 15 March 21 the group will work with Habitat for Humanity to build homes in Pittsboro, North Carolina.

Think green and you have Laura Lauffers attention. Central Carolina Community College recently hired Lauffer as its first Green Building Program coordinator. She is located at the Chatham County Campus.

Speaker Hackney appoints child survivor of the Holocaust to NC Council on the Holocaust - March 4, 2008

Speaker Joe Hackney has appointed Ms. Rene Fink to the North Carolina Council on the Holocaust. Ms. Fink is a Dutch Hidden Child. She was hidden by a Catholic family in Holland from 1942 until the end of World War II. Ms. Fink is a retired medical staff coordinator. She resides in Fearrington Village in Chatham County.

Outdoor burning ban lifted by Forest Service - March 3, 2008

Due to recent rainfall, the North Carolina Forest Service has lifted outdoor burning restrictions for Chatham County and all other counties in the state.
