Not as screwed as thought. - April 17, 2008

Worked the tax hurricane down to a tax tropical depression. Making the payments in installments isn't going to take as long as I originally had feared, nor as complicated as I'd imagined. you just mail in a check, and make sure the check has your SSN, address, phone number, mother's maiden name, whether or not you're an organ donor, and a letter of reference from your third grade math teacher.Okay, so it was just the first three, but you get my point.Oh, and the check must be written in the...

Boy, when I fail, I don't do it halfway, do IThe Tire Incident was averted through the generosity of my boss-- he surprised me by paying for not one but two new tires on the spot. But the tire-guy who replaced them says I need to get a front-end alignment soonish, or I'll have a repeat....front-end alignment, pronounced ecks-PEN-sihv, is what sounds like to me. Someone please feel free to correct me. Please.Moving out at the end of the month. Not into a house, but the guest bedroom. The tax...

Not even a courtesy reacharound, fate - April 10, 2008

I really should have kept my figurative mouth shut about my car.A spectacularly flat tire. It looks like the tread's about gone, too. Other front tire is fine, but tread-thin as well.Tires are expensive.I am all out of piss and fury, and money, for that matter, so I'm just going to see what I can do about the flat today. Tomorrow, who the hell knows.

"A minor setback!" --Darkwing Duck - April 9, 2008

The initial panic is always the worst part of these crises. First it was "O hai, I sellin mai howse!" and now "O hai, IRS wants ur vital organs!" I just need someone to steal my car in the middle of the night and I'll have hit some sort of trifecta here. The bad news is, it wasn't a mistake. It was because I'd been part of the year working at Dinn-Wixie and that's where the refund came from. So I'm the idiot here. Plus all the minor but necessary dips into my already meager savings this past...

SHIT. - April 9, 2008

I did my own taxes last year. I got a W2 last year. I got a refund last year. Nothing to it.This year, I did my own taxes again. This year, I got a 1099 Misc. WTF.THIS YEAR, I OWE $1500.SHITSHITSHIT.I am going to have a long discussion with my employer tomorrow about this 1099 vs. W2 business (in essence: WHY! AND HOW CAN WE MAKE THIS TOMFOOLERY NOT HAPPEN NEXT YEAR TOO) and to hell with being demure and patient, I am bringing up the raise issue again. I just spent about 15 minutes on the phone.

So in all this sound and fury in trying to figure out what the hell it is I'm doing in this house-hunt, it has become dismayingly clear to me that I need money.Yeah, don't we all, and I'm not talking about the house purchase cost itself (mortgage! yay, I feel all grown up now.) but I'm talking the little expenses I see looming, things like a house inspection, minor couple-hundred shit like that. I can save... a little... but with all my every day expenses (and I'm down to bare bones as it is) I.

I maybe can has house - April 5, 2008

Looked at a house this afternoon. It's well within my budget at 50 and change. For a foreclosure, it's in amazingly decent shape-- four bedroom, two bath. Only, one of the baths has no bathtub and is in kinda overall rough shape, but that can be fixed with a couple thousand bucks. Hideous carpets are in good shape, hideously painted walls are also in good shape. A few minor things need to be banged back into shape, the yard could use some love, and the exterior could use some updated siding, and.
