Monday 7th July 2008 - July 6, 2008

So it's nearly my birthday. But I only just had one. I got an early birthday present today when I found out that my gig in Oxford on Saturday afternoon has been cancelled, which means I now have all day to celebrate living fro another 366 days. Sorry if you were hoping to come and see me, but the people organising the festival I was going to be part of have gone bust. Which is sad for them. But I get to celebrate my birthday, so every cloud....

Sunday 6th July 2008 - July 5, 2008

I was heading down to Southwark on the tube for another preview. Sometimes taking the Underground can be as good exercise as walking. Not only did I have to carry my bucket of programmes up to White City, due to the continued closure of Shepherd's Bush, but when I changed at Bond Street to go on the Jubilee Line down to London Bridge, I got all the way to the platform before discovering that the line was closed beyond Green Park. So I walked back to the Central Line to head for the Northern...

Last time I checked Andrew Collings' ridiculous book had leapt from 10,000 and something in the charts into the 800s. This is the power of the podcast! I feel like a kind of god. Admittedly quite a useless god with pretty limited powers who doesn't make much difference to anything. But it's better than having no power whatsoever.

Incredibly we're already on the 20th Collings and Herrin Podcast - we're getting close to a whole day's worth of inane and improvised banter. Collings insisted on this being called a relaunch, but absolutely nothing is different. But if it makes him happy, then that makes me happy. He is, after all, one day going to be the mother of my bum baby.

Thursday 3rd July 2008 - July 2, 2008

I was involved with another Laughter in Odd Places gig. This time at The Museum of London. I've done two of these before, one at The Docklands Museum and the other in the lounge of comedy critic Bruce Dessau. It's a fun initiative to do comedy gigs in places that you wouldn't usually expect comedy to be occurring and as I've said before the changed location does have an effect on the material. What seems appropriate in a comedy club seems wrong in a man's lounge or by an exhibit about a...

Wednesday 2nd July 2008 - July 1, 2008

The day got off to a bad start with a call with my manager in which he told me rather sullenly that the BBC have passed on Absolutely Scrabulous. Apparently they didn't think there were enough laughs in it, which is incorrect and some might argue ironic given some of their output, but there we go. In the weird environment of the reading there had been very few laughs from them. I took the news well at the time. I had steeled myself for it and was expecting that to be their response, but it's...
