Secular Blasphemy

'Oh Lord, protect us from the Fury of the Norsemen.'<br /> - Medieval prayer

(Untitled) - July 30, 2008

Krabi After some fun and hectic days in Bangkok, I've settled down for a very relaxing atmosphere in beautiflul Krabi, where it is blessfully low season right now (good for me, not so good for the local tourist industry, which still runs all facilities but at lower prices). I barely dodged a bullet yesterday by just almost getting badly sunburned, saved by wearing the chemical equivalent of a burkha (sunscreen factor 30; I have some f50 on standby). On a more serious note, would anyone like to..

Quick heads up Everything is well here in Bangkok, except obviously the air quality, and tomorrow I am heading south to the ocean. Bangkok is a place that should not be missed, but I at least can only enjoy it in small doses.

I'd like a 'moon is a green cheese' shirt - July 22, 2008

Check out these teach the controversy t-shirts! Via Geekpress, which also points me to this interesting article in Discover: Is the Universe Actually Made of Math If it is, we're really gonna regret not paying more attention in class.

2007 had lowest disaster fatalities in a decade - July 22, 2008

When reading newspaper reports about the latest World Disasters Report published by the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, you have to look hard to see that it contains some good news: The number of people affected by natural disasters rose sharply last year to 201 million, 40 per cent more than 2006, though the number of fatalities was the lowest in a decade, the Red Cross said Thursday. There were 405 significant natural disasters in 2007, down from 423...

Quote of the day - July 22, 2008

I found this in the reader comments in the Norwegian daily Dagbladet.no, the unlikeliest place to find fun stuff: "Ahh, the Internet - where men are men, women are men and 14 year old girls are Federal agents..."

404 translation not found - July 22, 2008

This Chinese restaurant used some translation software to find out what they should call their restaurant in English. Must see! As always, if you can't get enough, check out Engrish.com for loads more. I am going to the far east tomorrow, so it is not inconceivable that I will find some examples of my own...

It's those gays, I tell you - July 22, 2008

Brent Rinehart, a politician in Oklahoma, is making a Jack Chick-ish comic book to help himself get reelected. That's obviously something you'd want to check out, like any trainwreck, but when you see this headline, you can't help clicking: I've never seen a comic book with the phrase 'anal sodomy' in it before See I told you.

Long time... - July 22, 2008

...no blog. I know, and I apologize. In February this year, along with a long-time friend and collegue, I started up a new computer games development company here in Bergen, Turbo Tape Games, and as I am sure you an imagine, things have been very busy. Things have also been very good, with success beyond all budgets and expectations, but it's still hard (and fun) work. I did not, and do not, intend to stop blogging. I didn't intend to take a long break either, that just happened. It didn't...
