Update on the Black River - March 20, 2008

Poplar Bluff, MO Three Levee Breaks and a Breach on the Black River Updated: The Black River swelled near Poplar Bluff Wednesday, breaking through the levee in three spots, and breaching it in a fourth location. Sections of Poplar Bluff are under water inside city limits and several rural areas. Many people have been forced to evacuate in rural areas due to rapid rising water.

Gov. Blunt Activates State Agencies, Guard for Disaster Response - March 19, 2008

Gov. Matt Blunt signed two State of Emergency Executive Orders for the severe weather and flooding that has struck Missouri. The Missouri State Water Patrol and the Department of Conservation have been involved in water rescues. There are numerous road closures throughout the areas and many communities are conducting evacuation operations. Missourians who are in life-threatening conditions should call 911. Missourians who need resources referrals or non-emergency help urged to call 211. The 211.

Black River Levee Breached - March 19, 2008

According to the sheriff's department and other emergency agencies, the Black River levee near the Dan River access has breeched. Water is rushing over the top of the levee and there have been reports of a hole in the levee as well. Residents are encouraged to evacuate. The flood warning continues for The Saint Francis River near Saint Francis until further notice. At 7:00 am Wednseday the stage was 23.3 ft.
