Former town secretary indicted on theft charge - October 26, 2007

MARSHALL CREEK -- A former town secretary was indicted Thursday by a Denton County grand jury on a second-degree felony charge of theft by a public servant.Diana Lynn Underwood was arrested in July on accusations that she was stealing money from residents' water bills and municipal court fines. She was released on $2,500 bail.Mayor James F. Macy-Simpson could not be reached for comment Thursday.At the time of her arrest, authorities said that they believed Underwood had stolen about $40,000....

Errand of mercy - October 26, 2007

If Roanoke voters are feeling neighborly, they'll put Marshall Creek out of its misery.A proposition on the Nov. 6 ballot calls for a vote on absorbing the tiny Denton County town, its dirt roads and about 430 residents into Roanoke. Voters should approve this consolidation.Marshall Creek incorporated in 1983 when the people who lived there feared being annexed (and thus having to pay taxes) to one of their neighboring cities. Tax bill up on average home - October 1, 2007
