I grind up whole Caribou... - June 30, 2008

1. Thank you Caribou Coffee for waking me up!2. So, I've got like 3 minutes to get in the shower.3. I'm finally taking my car to the collision shop to get fixed tomorrow. Pictures to come of the before and after.4. I spent Saturday with my grandmother. We had a very good day. We spent the day driving around. I took her along Lake St. Clair and we rode the ferry to Harsen's Island and drove around. The most memorable quote from the entire trip, "I hate that Carrie Underwear, everyone's..

Here's how I did it...1 Package of extra-firm tofu, (very well) drained and cut into 14" slices and then frozen.2 Large eggs, beatenSaltine crackers, crushed (or flour, bread crumbs, etc...)Seasoning, everyone seasons their fried chicken differently. Be GENEROUS with the seasoning. In a skillet, heat olive oil on medium heat.Dip the sliced tofu in the egg wash, then generously coat them with the breading.Place the coated sliced tofu in the hot oil and season the one side with the seasoning. ...

Mostly about food... - June 23, 2008

1. I really hate doing dishes by hand... now that I know I'm not moving, I see a dishwasher purchase in my future. 2. I made a trip to Trader Joe's on Saturday. I forgot how wonderful that place really is. I was able to buy several organic products at pretty decent prices. I walked out of there with 7 bags of food for under 100 dollars. I was totally able to satisfy my non-GMO, organic, anti-HFCS tendencies. :)3. I made my first quiche today. It contained eggs, ground turkey, potatoes,.

Random thoughs... - June 19, 2008

So a couple different things to make note of...1. I'm not moving to Texas. I'm not sure why I didn't get the job but maybe it's for the best.2. My (work) partner and I are moving from days to nights. I believe we'll be working from 8p to 8a. This will be a much better shift for me seeing as how I am not fairing too well working five consecutive days a week. That has been very hard on me since I started going that in March. 3. The cable and internet are out. Right now I'm using a...

HFCS is EVIL III - June 2, 2008

Because I have been asked several times, I'm going to address this question:If HFCS is made from fructose and glucose and sugar is made from fructose and glucose, aren't they the same thingThe answer is absolutely not. Here is a mildly technical explanation. When sucrose (table sugar) is consumed it is as a disaccharide. When the body wants to digest it, it sends in sucrase to break the bond connecting the fructose and glucose. This allows the body to metabolize the sucrose at it's own...

HFCS is Evil II - June 1, 2008

Since January, HFCS has been absent from my diet. I can report the following:When I eat, I get the full feeling (satiety) faster and it lasts for a LONG time. Because of my war on HFCS, I have become an avid label reader... and I have found the following:1. Food manufacturers like to disguise the fact that their products are sweetened with HFCS by using the term "Glucose-Fructose". 2. Food sweetened with "Crystalline Fructose" (the beloved Vitamin Water), inulin, iso-glucose, dahlia syrup,.
