Sex Educator, Squared - July 14, 2008

Starting in the Fall I'll be participating in Berkeley's Sexual Health Education Program as a peer educator. It should be a fun and interesting experience, and I'm looking forward to learning some new skills as well as applying my existing skills to the campus environment. Between this and my work at SFSI, I will be educatin' the hell outta some sex this year. ;) There are two required texts for the Summer training program: The Good Vibrations Guide to Sex, which I already own, and the SHEP...

LJ Braintrust: More PayPal fuckery - July 13, 2008

Paul and I are both having issues getting PayPal to let us choose a credit card as a funding source: For purchases made through stores that accept PayPal, it appears that one can no longer choose a payment method. I've tried to make purchases from two different vendors since last night and in both cases the Payment Method is forced to be "Available Funding Sources", which means that funds will always come out of my bank account (with no option to select a credit card). The only way I could...

Love made visible - July 8, 2008

One of my favorite passages from The Prophet: And I say that life is indeed darkness save when there is urge,And all urge is blind save when there is knowledge,And all knowledge is vain save when there is work,And all work is empty save when there is love; And when you work with love you bind yourself to yourself, and to one another, and to God.And what is it to work with loveIt is to weave the cloth with threads drawn from your heart, even as if your beloved were to wear that cloth. It is to...

A friend is planning her wedding, and in trying to come up with a meaningful theme, she and her partner are making lists of their own personal themes--not simply their hobbies and interests, but the things that matter most to them, the repeating themes in their lives, the concepts that frame the way they see the world. In a locked post she asked her friends for their own lists, and I thought it was such a wonderful idea that I wanted to share it with my friends, too. Here's my...

(Untitled) - July 7, 2008

Last night some friends and I went to see 'Tis Pity She's A Whore, a 17th century tragedy by John Ford that's got more sex and violence (and considerably more wit) than anything you'll see on prime time television today. It was a good production, well-acted, with a clever (mostly-)static set I wish I'd thought of, but the music is what really stole the show: a rich and powerful score composed and performed by a solo female cellist perched in the organ loft, floating like a beautiful and...
