D-165 agrees on rate hike - May 29, 2008

MARENGO - District 165 officials determined how much of a tax-rate increase to request at this week's board meeting. Now they need to figure out when to ask for it. The district will seek a 48-cent property-tax rate increase to help pay down its debt, officials said Wednesday. But the ballot question might appear next spring instead of in November, depending on the recommendation of the district's Referendum Committee.

Marengo to Receive FEMA Aid - May 1, 2008

The snow that blanketed McHenry County long has melted, but public works departments, road maintenance teams and grounds managers still are trying to dig out from the costs. About $371,025.97 in federal dollars set aside for at least 20 governments here should help ease the burden, though. The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Wednesday that $3.3 million in aid would be making its way to seven northern Illinois counties walloped in February by a brutal midwinter snowstorm.
