It was just Sam & Katie, siblings, parents, grandparents, and nieces. The ceremony was just right, reflecting who Sam & Katie are, and who they aspire to be together. Kaelyn and Karin presented the rings. I read a Rumi poem. The lilacs were still in bloom, and wafting their glorious scent over the proceedings. Katie was gorgeous; Sam was handsome. The summer solstice occurred as the ceremony was ending. We took a red eye from SFO last night, arriving at MSP about 5:30 am local time. We rented a car and drove up north. We thought it apt, being that it was Father's Day. It was a small ceremony, just her godparents and the families of the two officiants, but it was just right. She was surrounded by those who are charged with caring for her, contributing to her education, and nurturing her spirit. We are proud that Ben, Juanita, Jack, and Robin have joined us in this journey of raising little Elinor Marjorie. It's a simple fact of life these days, that wherever I am, Ellie's there with me. This means I've adapted many of my daily activities to include her. We flew past an amazing thunderstorm and watched the lightning playing in the clouds from the window of the plane. It was scary and magnificent all at the same time. By the time we got to the hotel it was well after 1am, so we had a rather leisurely morning of it.
