It's actually not as bad I thought.  I went back to the SCCC website and pulled up the worksheet for the AS-T I want.  If I cut out all the classes I want to take for "fun", and all of the ones I thought were needed for general education requirements (but aren't), it means I'll only have 113 credits at the end.  At the pace I'm going, that's about a year's worth of school less than what I was previously thinking.  It would be even less, but I need 1 class to be able to drop..

School - July 17, 2008

I just realized I'll have somewhere around 150 credits by the time I get my AS (DTA).  Damn.  But then I'll be set up to fall back on my original plan if I can't get into the UW's BIOEN program (they take less than half the number of students than the already super competitive CS program).  I'll need about 70 credits after that to get a BS (1 statistics class, 1 chem, biochem, tech writing, thermodynamics, some programmingrobotics, and then a buttload of bioen-specific stuff) -...

Boo - July 16, 2008

No alcohol for me for 3 months!  So I am enjoying my last evening for a while of BEER.  (No worries, nothing especially bad, just irritating and hard to deal with medically.  My liver cannot be fucked with for a while, but then I'll be fine.)Mmmm, beer.Sorry I've been so annoying to you guys with my eco-freak stuff.  I just really think it's important.  Yep, I think I want to work on the nanites instead of the video games.  Big life changes ahead.  Scary but...

Random Nattering - July 15, 2008

It's hard to reconcile being an American and wanting to enjoy certain luxuries in life, and knowing that large parts of the rest of the world have more serious problems than just not having those.  I'm such a hypocrite sometimes.  I'm pretty sure we all are.  I think writing this term paper (mandated "What I can do to Save the Earth") will help me find some direction with how I want to approach all this stuff in the long term. This class is driving me crazy. Here is some food (no...

Computarr - July 11, 2008

After some cleaning last night, I decided to get the new desktop case dealt with so I could recycle its packaging.Coming from a compact Antec mini-tower with standard mini-tower air flow, I have to say that the Antec P182 mid tower freaking rocks.  It's the best design I've ever played with.  Super easy to use.  Sure, it's bigger (and heavier), but that just meant everything fit without problems and the cables are now organized in a much cleaner way.  I've got 3x 120mm fans..

Catching Up - July 10, 2008

It's a relief to be done with school for the week.  I've been running on a bit of a sleep deficit the last several days.  I'm really enjoying my EnvSci class, but there are daily quizzes that I always feel the most prepared for if I get up super early and re-study my reading first thing in the morning.  I haven't had a chance to play Oblivion since the weekend (finally started the main storyline after, oh, somewhere around 140 hours of random exploration), but that's probably...

Sustainable Meat - July 9, 2008

Damn.  I can't eat shrimp anymore.  Almost everything I see at the stores is in the "avoid" category.  Yuck.Tried tilapia yesterday and it was pretty tasty.  I think I am done with beef... it just takes way too much water and grain to produce.  Poultry & eggs take a lot less, but tilapia is pretty awesome as far as that stuff goes.  Plus-- "tilapia eat less protein while they're growing than they later provide to people who eat them" (link).  Rad.  I'll...

School - July 7, 2008

I'm trying to figure out if I really want to go into Computer Science... or if I want to follow my cousin into Bioengineering. :)  AI or nanotech... argh.  I'll need to sit on this for a while. In the meantime, it couldn't hurt to at least take some of the pre-reqs and see if I enjoy them.  I have a giant list of stuff I want to take now.  I'll be in community college forever! :OCS: Java Programming IIMath: Linear Algebra, Differential EquationsChem: General Prep, General I,..

Foot - July 7, 2008

Well, according to the sports medicine guy (via his assistant on Friday since he's still out of town working with his much more important clients), there is nothing wrong with my foot and the doctor who ran my bone scans gave me misinformation because he's with a different organization.  I've been told to wear the boot until my foot "calms down" (whatever the fuck that means) and then come in for expensive longterm physical therapy and custom orthotics to deal with my somehow previously...
