Latest Xanga weblog from MamaToblerone

Saturday, July 16, 2005 - July 16, 2005

SEEYA AT BLOGGER! So for whatever reason, I decided to start a fresh new blog for life with Tobey and Eli together. I've been fine with Xanga and I haven't even really gotten used to Blogger or learned all of its features and limitations. But I thought I'd give it a try for something different. Turning over a new leaf, I guess. So come visit and comment, looking forward to hearing from you. http:tobey-n-eli.blogspot.com

FIRST BITE O' FRY Went to In-N-Out today with Richard & Angel after meeting Richard and the boys at Ortega Park. Tobey sat between Christopher and Nicholas, thus again showing me what possibly having 3 boys, each 2 years apart, would look like. Anyway, before I knew it, I turn around to give Tobey a bite of burger and he has a french fry in his hand! Nicholas had slipped him one, of course not knowing that Tobey isn't supposed to have them yet, or maybe he did but slipped him one anyway....

MUST...LET...GO Tom's parents are here now although the baby isn't (!). I've said many times before that I don't think I can live with a nanny out of frustration that I don't have more control over the raising of my kids (boy do I sound like a control freak). Now that his parents are here to help, I realize that my inkling is true and I'm now trying to learn to let go a little, especially since when the baby comes, I can't micromanage how they take care of Tobey. For one, we let Tobey hang out..

MONITOR SCARE Made Tobey jump today. He will toy with the monitor receiver (even though he's not supposed to) but since he's the one we use the monitor for, he never hears anything through the receiver. Until today when I answered the phone and ended up wandering into Tobey's room with the monitor on. He was in the living room in front of the receiver when he heard my voice and freaked out. Poor kid. But you gotta admit, it's kind of funny.

PRETEND PLAY Yesterday Tobey put the baby ducky on the piano bench and said he was going to "push" him in so he can play piano. It was my first noticing that maybe he was doing some pretend play. Now he has taken Honky Dog and said doggie has a poo-poo. He went to his diaper station, pulled out a diaper and wipes and tried wiping and putting a diaper on the dog. Very cool. Hope he's as helpful when the baby arrives!

"LATER" Now that Tobey's more verbal and he's more articulate with his wants, it's hard to pretend to not know what he's talking about. So I find myself in a quandry if he wants something (often some kind of food) but it's not the right time or it's not for him. For many situations, I find myself saying, "Maybe later." But I really want to watch myself to not use that as an excuse or a backhanded substitute for "No". Like if he sees us eating our peaches for dessert and he wants some but...

SPEAKING OF LABOR I'm not 1cm dilated, but not effaced. Last time with Tobey, I was 1cm on Friday, 3 on Monday and in labor Monday to Tuesday. So tempting to try to time it so we don't deliver on a weekend so we could see our regular doctors. But I suppose baby will come when he comes, despite some of our measures to push things along. Found out over the weekend that Yen also delivered naturally as did Angela (when we were swapping "war stories" at my little afternoon tea a couple weeks ago)....

60's DAD So in their weekly phone chats, Tom and Richard exchange all sorts of thoughts from home improvement to life as a dad. I guess at some point, Tom described his daily routine, about how when he comes home, he plays with Tobey while I fix dinner and after dinner, he'll play with Tobey again while I clean up to which Richard says, "You're a 60's dad!" After reading a bit of Tania's thoughts on "traditional" roles of husbandwife or should I say dadmom, I realize we do live kind of a...
