Holmes County exhibitors show well at Dixie National - February 19, 2008

The results are in. Holmes County 4-H'ers did it again. This competitive bunch took a strong group of market hogs, market and dairy goats to Jackson to the Mississippi Junior Round-up at the Dixie National Livestock Show and came away winners. 45 youth qualified 79 market hogs, 7 market goats, and 4 dairy goats for the final Mississippi show of this season and came away having placed 58 hogs, 3 market goats, and all 4 dairy goats, not to mention 4 champion hogs and one champion goat. Thieves, vandals trashed schools, stole computers - February 16, 2008

Vandals were responsible for approximately $31,000 in damages to J.J. McClain High School and Lexington Elementary School on the night of Tuesday, February 5 according to Holmes County Superintendent of Education Powell Rucker. Rucker said most of the damage was at McClain and that the vandals broke some window at LES that activated an alarm that apparently scared them away.Rucker said the vandals broke windows in six classrooms, destroyed doors in the technology department, and discharged...

Holmes County livestock winners advanced to district - February 1, 2008

Approximately 50 members of the Holmes County 4-H put over 100 head of swine, goats, and one heifer through their paces in the annual Holmes County 4-H Livestock Show at the livestock barn on Jaycee Drive in Lexington on Saturday, January 26.
