August in Paris Croton - (Found August 15, 2008 )

We&8217;ve all heard about the joys of April in Paris, with chestnuts in blossom and holiday tables under the trees. Some of us have even experienced them. But August in Paris Savvy travelers know that in Paris in August everything closes down. The French and especially Parisians, it seems, vacation during the month of August. The city is taken over by tourists unhappy to find shops shuttered and services at a standstill. Thank goodness, the ever-popular cafes are still bustling. Chez Julien.

Why so Noisy at Metro North - (Found August 15, 2008 )

Complaint Corner is the place to gripe about the things that irk you in everyday life: Village services, a surly shopkeeper, an unfair parking ticket, unnecessary noise, people who don&8217;t play by the rules&8212;you name it. Perhaps others have had the same experience. By raising our voices and letting off steam, maybe we can effect changes. Here&8217;s another complaint that we&8217;ve received: Has anyone noticed that the noise from the Croton-Harmon train station has gotten louder...

Sick. Sick. Sick. - (Found August 15, 2008 )

The bucolic village of Croton-on-Hudson is a little corner of Paradise where Happiness with a capital H reigns supreme. Or so one would have to believe to judge by the many protestations of sweetness and light by a small band of residents intent on proclaiming Croton to be a heaven on earth. But suddenly there is trouble in Paradise. Someone out there doesn&8217;t like Crotonblog. In fact, someone doesn&8217;t like us so much that they took the trouble to mail a package of odoriferous material.

Sticker Shock! - (Found August 15, 2008 )

To the editor: I&8217;ve sent the following letter below to every elected federal and state representative with jurisdiction over our electoral district. Dear Sir or Madam, My Con Edison bill arrived today and I am in shock. I expected an increase because of the reports of higher energy costs but the Con Edison increase is simply untenable. It is especially horrific for older Americans living on a fixed income. We are 83 and 75 years old respectively and have no possibility of...

You Call This a Showroom - (Found August 15, 2008 )

You&8217;ve seen his ads on TV. One proclaims that old saw, &8220;You never get a second chance to make a first impression.&8221; Another is his own coinage, &8220;We have a showroom in every neighborhood.&8221; His name is Mark Franzoso, and he&8217;s your typical siding salesman. He does indeed have a showroom in one very important Croton neighborhood, and it&8217;s making a very shabby first impression. The neighborhood is the highly touted &8220;Gateway&8221; where Croton Point Avenue...
