Comment on Watching the Watchers by Joe Cotter- October 13, 2006 Clear Channel was partially responsible for killing legal mural production in Portland for seven years. The City Council folded murals into the sign code after a court order came down in November 1998. The court order was part of an AK Media (now Clear Channel) law suit. Clear Channel has continued to go after the City of Portland since then and was in court the week of Oct. 2, 2006 charging among other things that the City of Portland "favors art over signs."
