Need Critique on my portfolio site - March 14, 2008

lesc1aypool makes a good point: though you're not a professional web designer, you need to do the site right. I would be happy to assist you with creating a fast-loading, easy to use site that is standards compliant. Or if you're not looking to hire a designer, Wordpress might be a great choice for you. Just install the software, choose a theme from the thousands of free ones available (just search "Free wordpress themes" on google), and your site will be done. No programing hassles.

You can also use an online tool such as TalentFlux (I'm launching this 1st April), Carbonmade, DeviantArt, etc.It would give you a more professional look, easily.

First off, you're not a web designer by trade...you're an illustrator. But I would agree with the idea of switching from table-based layouts to CSS. It really isn't as painful as you might think. Or maybe you don't think its painful...or maybe you like pain. I dunno. I'd also agree that to come off as a professional, uniformity of layout and whatnot throughout your site is very important. Keep working towards CSS-based layouts and uniformity. Your illustrations look great.piece out.

Some suggestions...1. Use web standards. Your site is built with tables and doesn't take advantage of CSS very well.2. I agree with shockboogiedesign on the background image.Start there and you might get inspired!

I think that your site's design looks like it came from the 90s. I really think your art work is great but the website somewhat takes away from it. Maybe if you come up with a simpler palette, more cohesive design, and remove the "marble, tiled background", it would really help the viewers focus on your art and not be distracted by other elements.

Browsing thru your site, it seems to be made up of way too many different styles, themes, layouts, etc. And Myspace and Professional are two words that NEVER go together.

I would like some honest critique on my illustration portfolio site. Should I be more specific about what kind of work I'm looking for just in case a client might think its to vague And how is my bio Should it sound more professional It would be great you could point out any spelling mistakes you notice. Its always hard for me to judge my own work so I'm hoping some of you professionals out there could help me out. Here it is: http:www.dianalevinart.com Its okay to be brutally honest. I can...
