It can only be good for the developer community and the consumer to have a battle between 2 giants of innovation! I am a FlashFlex developer, and I'd just like to clear up a few things on the ActionScript comments: - I never used AS1, but certainly agree that AS2 was pretty rubbish and certainly wasn't being taken seriously as an alternative for application development. AS3 however is considerably better, allowihttp://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/madgreek/the-bat... Comment by Mike Kavis on The Battle for the RIA Throne: Flex vs. Silverlight- August 22, 2008 MossyBlog, Good points again. My responses. Developer Maturity This is a clear win for Silverlight in the Microsoft shops. Time will tell for the non-Microsoft shops, but good point about Java-Fx. I would love to hear Adobe camp's opinion on this one. Open Source I am a little bias here, and am skeptical about Microsoft's open source movement. Nothing has been proven yet to make me change my mind. BookStahttp://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/madgreek/the-bat... Comment by MossyBlog on The Battle for the RIA Throne: Flex vs. Silverlight- August 22, 2008 Mike, I'll be honest, the flag for me on this post came when Adobe staffers considered this a "fair unbiased post" as straight away I took a deep breathe and said to myself "here we go, another Silverlight beatup.." then began to read. I do think there is a degree if bias here, but i don't fault you in anyway for it given we are simply new comers to these style of discussions. Digestiion takes a while. Developer Maturity. Comment by jbking on The Battle for the RIA Throne: Flex vs. Silverlight- August 22, 2008 I wonder what is the future of Web Developers, Web Designers, and the almost lost entity of the Webmaster in all of this: Graphics designers do a mock web page in Photoshop or some other graphical tool that web developers have to code from scratch except for the images, which is a lot of duplication. For example, let the designer make the layout in XAML or MXML that the developer can then write the behind-the-scenes code without have to rewrite things from scratch. Comment by Mike Kavis on The Battle for the RIA Throne: Flex vs. Silverlight- August 22, 2008 Mossyblog, Thanks for the feedback, a blog in response to a blog! I'll try to comment on each bullet point. Keep in mind that I have no ties to either product and am trying to be as fair and balanced as possible. Developer Community I am not sure that it is fair to equate .Net developers to Silverlight developers. There is potential to grow in numbers but it is unrealistic to assume that the majority of companies leveraging .Net will have more then a fehttp://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/madgreek/the-bat... Comment by MossyBlog on The Battle for the RIA Throne: Flex vs. Silverlight- August 22, 2008 Quick Clarification or maybe market sizing if I may - Developer community following - If you take into consideration that last time Adobe mentioned numbers about their developer community, David Mendels stated it was around 5,000 mark (http:www.oreillynet.comonjavablog2http://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/madgreek/the-bat... Comment by mikechambers on The Battle for the RIA Throne: Flex vs. Silverlight- August 21, 2008 Mike, Nice, well balanced analysis. Couple of comments and clarifications on the Flex side: -- In 2006, Adobe released three Beta versions of Flex 2.0 before delivering the final 2.0 version in June of the same year. The new version was based on Eclipse, an open source development platform that is popular among most Java development environments. -- Just to clarify, Flex Builder, which is an IDE for building Flex and ActionScript based applications, is based ohttp://networking.ittoolbox.com/r/rss.asp?url=http://it.toolbox.com/blogs/madgreek/the-bat...
