David, you're not alone in thinking about the role of an architect. I agree. An architect should be able to listen to what the technology is telling them, rather than use it. They should understand technology in terms of its capabilities and attributes i.e. the what, rather than its detailed workings i.e. the how. Of course, it is great if they know how to use the technology and know exactly how it works but in my experience, gaining this knowledge, usually occurs at the expense of not being
